lazily flipping through the brand new catalogue which had just been delivered to the store, mark sat behind the counter, a bored look etched on his face as he waited for his shift to end in an hour's time.
he looked up only when the bell, attached to the door, rang and cold air flitted into the store. instantly, his fingers loosened their grip on the book, letting it fall onto the counter with a thump.
a young male, who looked about his age, stood at the entrance, a soft smile gracing his features as he looked around in awe. he had dark brown eyes, black hair that framed his face, and small, pink lips. dressed in a beige sweater and a thick denim jacket to keep him warm as autumn was coming to an end and the harsh winter was quickly approaching, he managed to look absolutely soft, yet still stunning.
suddenly realising that the customer, who had been gaping at the store in awe moments ago, was now staring at him, mark shook his thoughts out of his head and focussed on the task at hand - doing his job.
"h-hi, welcome to the chandlery. is there anything i can help you with today?"
mark put on his reserved-for-customers-and-the-manager-only smile as he willed the blush away from the tips of his ears and his cheeks.
"no it's fine. i'll just be looking around."
mark marvelled at how smooth and silky his voice was.
leaving the handsome boy by the shelf labelled 'tea-infused', mark leant against the counter, watching the boy. he watched as the boy took his time sniffing every candle on the shelf, wrinkling his nose when he disliked the fragrance and sighing contentedly when he liked the fragrance.
he'd never seen someone so into candles before, especially not someone who looked like he had just come out of a magazine.
he took an hour to finish checking out the 'tea-infused' shelf, flustering mark once again when he stood in front of him, a glass jar in hand. mark rushed behind the counter and took it from him, their fingers brushing slightly.
hiding his surprise at someone actually picking up the unpopular peppermint and white tea candle, he followed the usual procedure, stopping to ask a question before packing up the candle in a small brown paper bag with the words 'the chandlery' printed in black block letters and handing it to the boy.
"would you like to sign up for a membership at a fee of forty dollars?"
"no thank you, i'll be back soon," the boy smiled at mark, his dimples showing. mark tried to not squeal at how cute he was and he almost didn't catch what the boy had said. almost.
"he doesn't want a membership, but he'll be back?" mark wondered on the way home, avoiding the cracks like as if he was still the small little boy from years ago, gripping his mother's hand for fear of being left behind.
