Day One
Night - Abandoned House - Outside
A young woman walked out of the abandoned house. She was searching with a flashlight, clearly scared. "Mitch? Ashley? You out here? Come on, guys! Where are you? Hello? Hello?" A hand was placed on her shoulder, making her scream. She turned around, calming down. "Brody."
"Ashley and Todd, they're dead!" Brody told her. "Wendy, they're dead!"
"Brody, pull it together," Wendy told him.
"Pull it together?" Brody repeated. "We don't have a chance, okay? We have to get out of here now."
"No, Brody, we are not leaving," Wendy told him. "We have got to find my sister."
Brody shook his head. "No. No, I am getting out of here right now."
Brody turned around, starting to run away.
"Brody!" Wendy told him. "Brody, get back here! Brody!" Brody was long gone. "God, you son of a bitch!"
Wendy started to cry. She heard something behind her, no longer crying, turning around.
Something was watching her from the brushes.
Something else crept up behind Wendy.
Wendy turned around, gasping, screaming what sounded like an unconvincing yell, quickly turning annoyed.
The thing in front of her was three crewmen with a movie set camera with a tennis ball above the lenses.
Everything around her was a movie set.
A director pulled a headset off his head. "Cut. What the hell was that?"
'Wendy' groaned, looking away, handing her flashlight to a crewmen. "Thanks."
A man with glasses handed 'Wendy' a beverage. "Here you go."
"Thanks, Walter," 'Wendy' told him, taking it, walking away.
The director looked at one of the crewwomen. "Don't mark that." He walked toward the actress playing Wendy. "It's all good, Tara. That was great. Uh, let's do it again. Uh, maybe we try dialing up that scream, huh?"
"I know, I know," Tara told him. "I'm just -- I'm having trouble with the tennis ball."
"That is just for CG registration," the director told her. "Now, when Ivan and the FX guys are done, it is going to look terrifying. You want to look at the concept sketches again? Would that help?"
A woman brought over a book of sketches. The sketches were of a skeleton in a leather outfit, with a chainsaw and his head and hands on flames.
"No, that's okay," Tara told them. "I'll -- I'll find it."
"I know you will, pumpkin," the director told him. "Huh? Okay."
A set worker spoke into a mic. "Going again, everybody! Ten minute reload for camera and sound!"
Tara sat in her chair by the actor playing Brody.
Another set worker was talking to 'Brody'. "Wow, Rick, I'm telling you. Working alone behind the sets, or after wrap? I catch this weird vibe sometimes."
"Oh, like what?" Rick asked.
"Like something's watching," the set worker told them.
Rick scoffed. "Come on."
