"Good mornin' Minneapolis! It's your Saturday mornin' radio host, Tom Bunkleman, and I am here to jam up your weekend!" the radio on my alarm clock sounded. I slowly fluttered my eyes to life and glanced at the hot pink clock sitting on my bedside table. 6:30 a.m.? On a Saturday? Is that even possible for a 16 year old? I reached my arm out from the warmth of my white comforter to the breeze of my open window to stop the annoying disturbance that awoke me. Once the chaos was over, I closed my brown eyes and fell back asleep.
Again, I fluttered my eyes to life. Not to the sound of the "Saturday Mornin' Radio Talk Show Host", but to the afternoon sun pouring in through my curtains. I climbed out of bed and walked my bathroom. I took a long, hot shower until my skin was as red as a strawberry. I then ran to my walk-in closet, wrapped in a fluffy purple towel. I took my lime green Abercrombie and Fitch tee off of its hanger and pulled out a pair of my favorite PINK yoga pants from my dresser. Once I was fully clothed, I threw my hair into a messy pony tail and applied a little foundation and mascara.
I walked down the steps into the kitchen and grabbed myself a cup of joe in my favorite coffee cup, a pink cup with a "S" outlined in gems. I sat in the breakfast nook and searched through the daily mail. Bill, bill, bill, letter for Kendra, bank statements, and a ha! My latest issue of Teen Vouge with Miranda Cosgrove on the cover. I read the first article while sipping my coffee. Then my mom walked into the kitchen. "Hey Honey! What's on your agenda for today?"
"I'm going shopping with Erika," I stated as I tried to read my magazine.
"Okay. I'm heading out for work. Kendra is still in her room sleeping if you need anything."
"Mom, I'll be fine. I 16."
"I know. I know. But working in the ER really shows you what can happen to 16 year old females." She then walked out the door in her lilac scrubs and walked towards her car which was parked in the driveway. I got up and dumped the remainder of my coffee into the sink. I went back upstairs and grabbed my purse and keys. I came back downstairs and headed for my car.
Once in the car, I dialed Erika's number on my iPhone. "Hello?" Erika answered in a sleepy tone.
"I'm on my way."
"Okay, I'm sitting on the front porch waiting," she replied. I then hung up the phone and continued my route to Erika's.
