Mr. Vladimir you have committed the ultimate crime punishable not only by God, but men also. You will be sentenced to your death on 4th July 2009.The decision of the court is final and will not be amended" and then the hammer came down.

I opened my eyes. My body covered in sweat. Sleep was impossible now. I got up and went for a shower and turned that lock open that kept me together. The barriers came down. Memories, ghosts still haunt me.I remembered that day so vividly.I went to see my father in his cell for the very last time.

"Hey baby girl,"he said, holding me to him."Don't cry. Promise me that you will stay strong? You would, right?"

 I nodded with blurry eyes.

"Vera! You and I. We are fighters. This world is nothing but a war zone. Where the fittest of us survive and you know what warriors do? No matter how many times they fall down, they always get up.

Then he introduced me to tall, handsome looking man in his forties. All crisp and business like in his black designer suit.

"Brother how long had it been eh? Ten or fifteen years, maybe. Nice to see you..."

Though my father was conversing with ease. I could see the hardness in his eyes. The way they both shook their hands.

"Cut the pleasantries George. Get to the point. Why did you want to see me?"

"Fine then. Adopt my daughter. "

"You never change do you. Always leaving me to clean up the mess you have created."

"Please! I beg you."

The man looked at me. Something about his gaze made me cringe and I held my father's hand a little tighter. He averted his eyes.

"Let me get my lawyer,"he said and left the room and I heard my father breathing a sigh of relief.

July fourth was everything but ordinary. My father didn't want me at his sentence. He wanted me to remember him as he was, but the world forgot that George Vladimir was my father. He was a fighter, a warrior. He never did as predicted. He escaped prison the night before his sentence. I was in triumph. My father was no hero, but when it comes to loved one's one is a bias.

The police did everything to find him. Me and my new family were monitored for months. I was questioned till my mind swarmed. Each and every little detail was looked into, but they did not find a thing. It seemed as if my father had disappeared from the face of the earth.

After that my life was pretty much uneventful. Painted in gray and black just like the clothes I usually wear. I got out of the shower and dressed myself in blue jeans, a black hood over a gray t-shirt.

School was as uneventful as always. I was used to being ignored, was used to the whispers that followed me, was used to the sudden hush when I entered the room.I dragged myself from one classroom to another until the day ended.

Sydney and Walter were at work and I had the house to myself.I was pouring myself a glass of juice when the bell rang and rang.

"Hold your horses I am coming." I practically yelled and opened the door and glass stopped halfway to my mouth.

A stranger loomed over me. All dressed in black with spiked shoes. I closed the door. This time he banged. I inserted the chain and opened the door and found myself staring into piercing blue angry eyes.

"Umm what do you want?"

He looked at me as if he wanted to kill me.

"Vera open up.."

Wait. What? He knew my name. I stared at him dumbstruck

"Vera for hell's sake. It's me Jared."

I could feel my facial expression changing. Shit, he had changed. I opened the door and let him in.

" Thank you cousin for the warm welcome I just received after a five hour flight."

"It's not my fault that you come at my door looking nothing less than a death deity all set to take my life."

"Really Vera? You have got more dumber than I remember." he said with a raised eyebrow

I blushed. He started picking up his belongings.

"Need anything?"I asked to cover up my embarrassment

"It's my house too. I can get what I need."

Half an hour later when I was studying I heard Linkin park playing as if they

want to wake the dead. I made my way to his room.

"Can you please shut that down. That Linkin park of yours is not letting me study."

He was lying on his bed. His black hair was covering his eyes.

"Sure Vera."He said and turned the speakers off blaring at full volume.

I looked at him in astonishment and left the room. On my way back, I heard Lana Del Rey screaming twice as loud as Linkin Park.
