Aron’s POV
It was lunch time and I couldn’t wait to see my Sophie, I really didn’t care about any other girl but her- they were all just incomparable to her. She has these irresistible green eyes rimmed with pure black that capture my soul and steel my breath away, such delicate full lips and cascading milk-chocolate coloured brown hair that only complete her perfect face, affirming that a goddess is present on earth. Anxious to see her I got my lunch and sat down at a table at the end of the cafeteria where the rest of my mates were seated, they all knew that she was off limits and that if any one of them dared to make a move they’d have to face me; Although many would say that all I feel for her is just what I “think” love might be at this age, I know that it’s all pure and true, I would wait for her and give her all the time she needed till I could ask for her hand in marriage. Dismissing all these thoughts for the moment I looked up at the cafeteria door waiting to see her come through as I picked on my lunch.
“Hey Aron did you get my black ops CD? I need it before this week end, I’m ready to kick some ass!” Jeremy said enthusiastically.
“No man, I forgot it at home. I’ll get it for you tomorrow” Aron said apologetically.
Jeremy was my best friend since kinder garden, our parents even became close friends. We were always causing trouble even if it meant our heads were on the line just as long as we had fun.
“Sure thing, just have it by the end of the week or it’s your ass that’s gonna be kicked” Jeremy punched me on my arm initiating one of our punching wars but we were interrupted when we heard the crowd hollering and cheering, looking off my shoulder I saw Jake and Sophie in the middle of what seemed like a fight, I sprung up from the bench and quickly made my way through the tables.
“You learnt how to speak to me with respect you little brat”
I heard Jake say that and that was about it for me; I quickly got in between them in time to stop Jake from making a huge mistake which could cost him his good looks.
“Don’t you ever lay a finger on her or even look at her again for that matter or I will make you regret it Jake.” I tried my best to make my message as clear as can be in words.
“Chill Bro, no harm done I was only talking to the girl” he sneered but I sensed fear radiate from him.
“I mean it Jake.” I emphasized.
It took a while before I realized that Sophie was still behind me and she was pulling on my shirt, I immediately turned the other way and headed out of the cafeteria still making sure that she was next to me, when we reached the hallway I stopped and for a second I was afraid to see the look on her face but she was only looking at me tenderly, I saw her smile at me and I knew she was okay but I just needed to hear it coming from her.
“Are you okay Sophie?” I asked quietly.
“I’m fine thanks to you, I really don’t know what to say..If it wasn’t for you I would probably be fainted in the nurses’ office”
She was thanking me? Does she really not know that I’d do anything to help her or keep her safe?
I saw her blush slightly before her lips landed on my cheek. Silk, they felt like silk on my skin; I should really help her more often if this was the reward,I thought awkwardly.
“It really was nothing Sophie, I told you that I’d always have your back” I felt pride swell up inside of me as I said it.
I walked her back to her class room and then made my way to mine; all I could think of all day was that moment and how much I wanted it to happen again. On my way home I thought that maybe I could see her again but she never came out of the house, I thought she was probably doing some school work.
Next day at school I saw her every now and then in the hallway but every time I smiled to her she’d look away or she wouldn’t even look at me at all. I decided not to jump to conclusions so I waited until break where I went up to her in hope of finding out what could possibly be making her upset from me after yesterday.
“Hey Sophie” I said happily
Nothing, no reply she just simply continued to eat her pizza as if I wasn’t even there.
“Sophie, umm is everything okay?”
Still no reply and that’s when my heart beat began to take off. I put down the tray I was holding and put it on the table and sat down next to her just looking at her hoping she’d look back.
“Sophie did I do something that hurt you? Tell me because if I did then I’m sorry I would never want to make you upset, you know that” I tried to say anything that would just get her to acknowledge my existence but nothing seemed to work. I sat there just waiting for her to say something as she ate for 10 minutes until finally she looked up at me.
“Aron, I am thankful for what you did yesterday but I can handle myself and I don’t need you sticking up for me like some 8 year old child from now on. That being said, I don’t want to be your friend anymore or your anything for that matter-stay away from me. I want nothing to do with you and I mean it.”
I couldn’t believe all I was hearing, it just couldn’t be her, this can’t be happening..nothing to do with me? What happened during these few hours that changed her mind like this?! She had this blank look on her face, emotionless as if I meant nothing to her, as if yesterday never happened-as if the years of being friends never even happened. Next thing I knew she was getting up from the table and sat at another one at the opposite side to where I was, I couldn’t let this happen so I got up and followed her but she kept moving away from me until she finally left her food and went into the girls bathroom. I decided to wait until she got out but 2 minutes after she entered the bell rang and I felt desperate, I saw her walk out and ran towards her.
“Sophie you’re just angry about god knows what but I promise I’ll make it up to you please just talk to me”
I practically begged her to talk to me but she walked into her class and the second bell went off so I decided to talk to her after class was over. We’d reached home time and she still wouldn’t talk to me so I just decided to give her what she wants and leave her be.
Days, weeks and months passed by and not a single word from her, although it felt like dying I had to let her go..after all don’t they say that if you love something you should set it free?
