Chapter 11: Trip Down Memory Lane

Shayley POV

I woke up at 5 o’clock. Yes, 5 o’clock in the morning. It was almost impossible for me to sleep without Keaton right next to me, but I had to deal. I stayed quiet while Max was getting ready for work so he wouldn’t come into my room. I didn’t want to see him ever, let alone this early in the morning.

Today is a Monday and I go back to work after being “sick” for three days last week. That was what Macy and I told our boss. Thank goodness I have a best friend that covers for me. Macy is just the most perfect best friend a girl could ask for.

I got ready for work by doing my normal routine: blasting music, putting makeup on, and getting dressed. I decided to treat myself to breakfast this morning to make me feel a little better. I ate strawberries and a banana, my two favorite fruits. I smiled at the memory of me and Keaton making breakfast together. My mood instantly got better just at the thought of Keaton. I pulled out my phone and texted him.

Me: Good morning! I hope you have an amazing day. Love you!

I finished off my banana as I was waiting for his reply.

Keaton: Have a good first day back at work! Hope you recovered from your sickness (; I love you to the moon and back.

My heart sped up as I read his message. He’s perfect. How did I get so lucky? I would’ve never considered myself “lucky” before I met Keaton.

I got my stuff together after I finished breakfast and headed to work.

It was a slow day at the office, so Macy and I had been bored all day long.

“You want to get lunch together?” Macy asked me from her desk.

“Sure. Where do you wanna go?”

“Well, we could order Chipotle and go to my house and eat.”

“Sounds good, I’m in,” I said with a smile. Leave it to Macy to make me feel better.

We pulled into Macy’s driveway after we got our food. I was glad she invited me to get lunch with her. If she hadn’t I probably would have went home and sat on the couch until time to go back to work. I just wasn’t in a happy mood today, at all.

We walked to her front door and she unlocked it. I took off my shoes at the door and headed to the kitchen with our bag of food in my hand.

As soon as I reached the kitchen, I almost didn’t believe what I saw.

Sitting at the dining room table were three faces I wasn’t expecting to see for a few weeks. But here they were, smiling like little kids in a candy shop.

“Hey, hot stuff,” Wes said to me jokingly.

“Hello there, damn fine boy,” I said back to him with a wink.

I walked over to Keaton and kissed his cheek and gave him the biggest hug I think I had ever given anyone. “I love you,” was all I said to him before taking the seat next to him.

Macy sat down next to Drew and he kissed her cheek right after she did so. 

“Man, I really need to get a girlfriend. I’m like the 5th wheel,” Wesley said as he dug into the food the boys had.

“Yeah, you’re lucky we love you,” Macy said back to him with a laugh.

“So, who planned this?” I asked everyone sitting around me. They all looked at each other and smiled.
