Shayley POV

*beep beep beep* My alarm woke me up. I shut it off but I didn’t move from the warm spot in my bed. It has been two weeks since I saw Wes and Keaton in the store and a month since the party and my little rebellion. Those were the last times I have had interaction with the “outside world” besides work. I haven’t seen the boys since, but I wish I had. They’re the closest thing I have to friends aside from Macy. That sounds so pitiful. I barely know them, and I bet they don’t even care about me.

I got out of bed to go get ready for work. I actually enjoyed going to work for three reasons: I could be away from Max, I get to interact with other people, and I get to see and work with Macy every day. I’m so lucky to have her as my best friend.

I walked into my bathroom and blared music. I never get to play my music unless it’s in the morning because Max gets up at six for work and leaves at 6:30. I don’t wake up until seven, so I get some time away from him at home too, which is delightful. I put my makeup on and put clothes on. I work at a real estate office as a secretary so I wear dress pants, a nice shirt, and heels every day. I don’t mind though.

When I arrived at work, my best friend had a smile on her face as she was waiting for me. She was always in a good mood and happy. It was a nice balance to my life. She was almost always the highlight of my day.

“Hey Mace, how are you?”

“I’m good, how was your weekend?”

“Didn’t do much,” I said awkwardly. It wasn’t as if I had a choice. If I could, I would have fun all the time. I’m a social person, I don’t like being holed up in a house with a jackass all the time.

“I’m sorry, Shay.”

“It’s fine. Let’s just focus on having a good day today,” I said with a smile.

Around 4 o’clock, I heard the bell that signaled that someone walked through the door. I looked up and a gasp escaped my lips.

“Mace, we have a delivery!” a guy said with a plate of cookies in his hand. That isn’t what I was shocked about though. Keaton and Wes stood beside the guy I didn’t know with smiles on their faces staring at Macy. I didn’t even know Macy knew them? I mean yeah, they were at her party but that doesn’t mean anything. They could have been invited by a friend of a friend or something. Keaton looked at the desk next to Macy’s which just so happens to be mine.

“Hey I haven’t seen you since the grocery store!” Keaton laughed.

“Yeah hey Keaton, hey Wes,” I looked toward the guy I don’t know.

“Oh! I’m Drew, you must be Shayley,” he said. How does he know my name?

“Nice to meet you Drew,” I said, “Macy I didn’t know you knew Wes and Keaton?”

“Yeah, I forgot to tell you. They told me they met you, but it slipped my mind. These boys are my best friends.” I was shocked.

“Macy, we’re going to eat dinner after you get off work. Shayley, would you like to come?” Keaton asked me sweetly with a smile on his face. He’s so charming.

“Did cooking not work out for you boys?” I asked sarcastically.

“Nope, it sure didn’t!”

“I’d love to come to dinner with you guys.” I said it but I wasn’t sure if I could. I wanted to so bad, but Max probably wouldn’t let me. Although it has been a while since he let me do anything, so I could tell him that it’ll look suspicious if I keep telling Macy no when she asks me to do something. He should fall for it. I hope he does.
