Mapleshade's Revenge

Chapter One

Maplekit opened her eyes. The nursery was very roomy. Only her, her sister, Mistkit, and her mother, Echoflight, were in there.

It's nice not tripping over little kits.

Maplekit felt a pang of sadness at her thoughts. Her younger denmates, Ivykit, Snowkit, and Leopardkit, along with their mother, Birdsky, had all died from greencough.

I'm just glad that I didn't too.

Then Maplekit remembered something. Today was her sixth moon. She would become an apprentice today!

She looked at her sleeping sister and prodded her in the side.

"Wh- what are you doing? I was having a good dream too!" Mistkit protested.

Maplekit rolled her eyes, "Today we are becoming apprentices!"

Mistkit gasped, and immediately sat up. She began grooming her fur.

"What are you doing?" Maplekit questioned.

"Well, I want to look nice for the ceremony!" She squeaked.

Maplekit laughed, her sister could be such a worrier sometimes.

I don't care what I look like, I just want to become an apprentice!

Maplekit's mother let out a yawn. "Ready for your big day?"

"Oh, of course!" Both kits squealed.

Echoflight purred.

All of a sudden, Maplekit's father poked his head inside the nursery, "Willowstar has called for everyone to gather."

Echoflight nodded. "Come on you two, let's go!"

Maplekit felt so happy. I've been waiting for this my whole life! I'm going to be the best apprentice the clan has ever seen!
