Today is your first day of work at the Krusty Krab in Bikini Bottom. You've been excited yet apprehensive all week since you got the call from Mr. Krabs, owner of the fast food restaurant, that you got the job. Of course, you'd only get minimum wage (which was $7), but it would help you pay rent and for utilities. The wage didn't matter too much since you have some money saved up from previous jobs, but those jobs wouldn't help you in a new town where you know no one and have to start over.
You check yourself in the mirror one last time, straighten your clothes and make sure your signature Krusty Krab hat is prim and proper upon your head. Deciding you looked fine, you walk out of your front door and lock it behind you. You slide into your boat and start it up, revving the engine. The sound of it gives you the shivers and you pull carefully out of your driveway, watching the navigation as it leads you to what would soon be the best and possibly worst time of your life.
Driving through the empty roads with their serene views calms your nervousness for the day. You hadn't met your coworkers yet, just the boss, but you have hope they'll be nice and help you learn what was going on.
Pulling in to the parking lot, you park your boat and lock it as you get out. The doors of the Krusty Krab loom before you and through them you can see two workers preparing for the work day. One, a tall man who has the look of perceived death on his face, is reading a magazine about clarinets and how to be beautiful. The other, a shorter man with yellow hair, is running everywhere, cleaning and bouncing off the walls. You brace yourself to meet your coworkers and open the glass doors. You walk, step by step, and stop in front of the balding older man. He looks up from his magazine for a second and then back down, flipping to the next page. He ignores you for a few more moments and you stand there awkwardly.
"Ahem," You say quietly. "I'm (y/n). Today is my first day. Do you know what I'm supposed to do?"
He looks up, annoyance crossing his features. "Yeah," He says. "You're supposed to clock in on that wall over there, then ask Spongebob to show you how to bus the tables. I'm Squidward. Don't talk to me again."
He looks back down and you gulp. You steel yourself and ignore his request not to talk to him.
"Thank you."
"Hmm."
You walk to where the blond man is standing and wiping down a table. He notices you and waves, a friendly smile on his face.
"Hey there!" He says, a unique laugh escaping him. It sounds magical to your ears, and you crave to hear more.
"Hi!" You say, a grin on your face. "I'm (y/n), the new worker. I was told to clock in and ask you what I'm supposed to do, but I don't even know how to clock in. Can you show me?"
"Sure thing, (y/n)! My name is Spongebob. Follow me and I'll show you how to clock in and out, bus tables, and work the drive-thru."
You follow him to a small machine on the wall of the kitchen. Spongebob tries his best to explain how to use it, but he's very hyper and unfocused. He constantly gets distracted by the smallest of things, and it takes much longer for him to explain how to clock in than it should, but you soon understand how to do it. The same happens when he explains how to bus tables, and by the time he's done it's time for the restaurant to open.
When it does, customers stroll in and order from Squidward. The first one ordered a regular Krabby Patty and sat down at a table with it after Spongebob cooked it up. He ate and left, and you clean the table vigorously. Each customer is the same, pretty much, except the one who spilt her soda on you. But soon, it's all over and everyone is gone.
You haven't talked to Squidward or Spongebob all day because they were busy taking orders and being a fry cook, respectively, but you heard Squidward yell at Spongebob multiple times for something or another. Now that it was the end of the day and everyone was preparing to go home, you approach Spongebob.
"Hey! Thanks for teaching me how to work here. It's pretty easy once you get the hang of it." You say to the smiling man, smiling a broad smiley smile that makes you smile.
"No problem! Hey, since it's the end of the day now, do you want to come hang out with me and my friend Patrick? We were planning on doing some late night jellyfishing." He asks, laughing in-between every sentence.
The smile on your face widens and you shout out a delighted, "Yes!". You thought that you wouldn't make any new friends while living in the Bikini Bottom but here you were, heading out of your first day of work with a prospective new friendship with an amazing yet scatterbrained person.
