You had enough. It was too much to handle anymore. First your best friend hooks up with your boyfriend, then your drunk dad kicks you out of the house because his new girlfriend doesn't like you.
Just to top the cake, you got mugged and almost taken advantage of by some thugs. Luckily you managed to escape but at a cost. The only thing you could find to defend yourself was a pipe and you may have hit the one guy too hard, because next thing you knew, he was on the ground not breathing.
You tried everything you usually did to cope. Drinking, smoking, even cutting. But tonight none of it was enough. There was only one thing you could think of that you could do to escape, but it was scary just thinking about it.
So now here you are standing on the edge of a bridge, shaking and crying hysterically. It was the usual weather outside, windy with a bit of rain. Not helping as you held on the pole of the bridge. You took a step forward, looking down at the water. It was a sure death if you jumped.
You took another step forward. One more step and you would fall. Even with everything that's happened, you started to wonder if this is really what you want. Your thoughts were interrupted by a car door opening. You looked back to see none other than the famous Jim Gordon, hero of Gotham standing below you.
"You don't want to do this." He said slowly getting closer to you. His voice was comforting and for a second you really believed that he cared, and looked at him with tears in your eyes.
"You don't know what I want." You half yell, half sob at him.
"I don't know what you have been through to think that this is the way out, but I can assure I can help." You could tell he meant what he said. But him saying that still didn't change your situation.
"You don't get it okay? I'm alone. I have no one. Everyone hates me and I don't know why." You cry at him. You Yelp as you almost fall due to the wind.
"You are never alone, trust me I know how you feel. This isn't the answer. Please just take my hand." He holds out his hand. You look at it hesitantly. It did seem like a okay option. Maybe you just felt so convinced because he wasn't wearing is tough guy facade. His face was soft and looked almost vulnerable.
You took his hand, shaking as you climbed off of the side of the bridge. You got on the ground and before you knew it, you reached out and hugged him. He saved your life after all. He hugged you back right away, trying to make you feel safe.

"What's your name?" Jim asked you as you guys started to drive away in his car.
" Y/N L/N." You say looking out the passenger window.
"Well I'm Jim Gordon if you didn't already know." You laugh a bit and he looked at you strangely.
"I know who you are." You laugh a bit more. You had no idea what came over you. It was like all the adrenaline went away and was now replaced by a sudden burst of laughter. Jim looked at you again and then started laughing as well. Next thing you knew both of you were laughing for no reason. His laugh sounded weird, but only cause you weren't used to him being... Well, human. On TV he was always just this tough guy who was always serious. You felt kind of special to see such a rare thing to happen.
"So listen Y/N." He says after you both stopped laughing. "Where are your parents?"
"My mom died giving birth to me, and my dad has been a wreck ever since, well at least that's what I hear. I never really knew him any other way." You said. For a quick moment you swore you saw his eyes soften.
"So you live by your dad now?" He asked carefully, not wanting to upset you with the wrong words.
"Sometimes. He usually kicks me out because his girlfriend doesn't like me. But it's been like that for my whole life so it's fine." You say looking out the window sadly.
"So I'm guessing you don't want to go home then, do you?"
"You're a good guesser Gordon." You laugh sadly. He thought for a moment before saying.
"How about for tonight, you stay by my place and then in the morning we can figure out the rest." That's when you remembered about what happened that night with the pipe and the guy.
"Listen, I don't think you are gonna feel the same way about helping me in the morning." You said as you felt all the hope flush out of you.
"And why would that be?"
"Well before I went to the bridge, I- well these guys took all my money and belongings, and they wouldn't leave me alone and." You stopped there trying not to burst into tears. Jim just looked at you, concern filling his face. You took a deep breath and continued. "My stuff wasn't enough, the one guy still wanted more, he pinned me to the wall started trying to cut off my shirt when I grabbed a pipe and- and killed him with it."
"Hey listen to me." He put a hand on your shoulder while still looking at the road. "You did what you had to. I'll make sure of it that you are not charged or brought into any trouble."
"Thanks." You say trying to stop the tears.
That night you slept on the couch no matter how many times he insisted you had the bed. You could feel yourself calming down after he tucked you in. He kind of reminded you of the father you always wanted. It was like he could give you one look and you would know it would all be okay. He made you feel at home and even more important, safe.
