"Good morning." Luna happily chirped to her colleagues once she reached her work station. "I brought some snacks. Let's eat." She told to her best buds in the team.
"Yeah boy!" Chrishna enthusiastically sighed. "Vince pantry!" He called out. "A bit energetic today, eh?" Luna commented. "Let's go. I'm famished!" Luna complained. "Vince, hurry before Luna transformed!" He called out.
"Hey Luna how's your condo unit? Did you already settled the deposit? How much is your monthly payment for the housing loan?" Vince inquired as he takes a bite of the home-made sandwich.
"Not yet done with the deposit. I think it will end in May or June 2018. They haven't informed me about the transfer but I hope they will inform me sooner than later. Hehehe." Luna stated as a matter of fact.
It's been like this for almost every day. Peaceful, worry-free and just pure chill. Until that day which turned her world 360 degrees.
November 7, 2015 Saturday 10 am, "Hi Luna good morning." Doctor Cassandra greeted briefly.
I knew something is off. I can feel it, I can taste it thru the air. "Good morning Doctor. How was the result?" I decided to be direct to the point. I don't want my anxiety to blow-up and dive deep into the darkness.
"You want to be straight-to-point then I will give it to you. But first let me check your heart rate then your breathing and your monthly period and of course how you are feeling." The doctor calmly said.
There is really something fishy about this. Luna patiently sit and stand and rise her arms as the doctor told her to do so. After all the pre-requisite check was done, the doctor sat and told her about the results. "You're thyroid gland is unresponsive to the medicine that you are taking for 2 years now. The kind of thyroid disease that you have is Hashimoto's Disease which is also known as Autoimmune Thyroiditis where the immune system attacks healthy thyroid tissue and cause inflammation."
"Is that the reason why my neck is bigger than normal?"
"Yes it is. Try to swallow and tell me what you feel."
"It's hard to swallow and breathe. It feels like something is stuck in the middle of my throat. It's not phlegm but I cannot properly describe it."
"It's your thyroid nodules blocking your air and food path. It is dangerous if we do not cut of your thyroid as you might choked. We can do partial thyroidectomy if you want but we still need to monitor it as we noticed a lump on your thyroid gland. It's too small that's why I don't recommend it to have a sample."
"Is the lump fluid or it is something else?"
"Per your neck ultrasound, it is not 100% fluid."
"So there is a possibility that it is cancerous."
"Yes."
"What is the probability percentage that it is malignant?"
"I cannot answer you about it unless we have the biopsy."
"I will schedule my operation next week. I don't want to risk anything."
The following day, a mask was worn to conceal the anxiety and nervousness. A meeting was set to my manager to inform her about the operation and signed my medical leave.
"Get well soon." She said with a smile. Behind that beautiful smile I knew she was worried about me.
"Thank you Ms. Jen. I will be back soon." I smiled brightly.
