CHAPTER 5

CHAPTER 5.

“Bloody hell…” I woke up early in the morning as usual for school at about, 6am. Astrid was sleeping up on the couch and Jess was on the other one, Connor was still fast asleep which isn’t a surprise.

“My head…” I got up slowly and felt dazed; this wasn’t the ordinary morning wake up head. Jess got up slowly and then her eyes widened in shock as she looked up and saw me.

“Spencer?! What… What happened?!”  I looked down at my hands and to my horror they were covered in blood and cuts were going up my arm

“JESUS CHRIST!” I yelled in shock, Connor slept through it but it sure as hell woke Astrid up

“I-it’s just… Me, girl…” Connor said in his sleep. I giggled softly and decided to wake up him

“EH CONNOR!” he jumped up and got into a fighting stance. I chuckled even harder as he lobbed a punch at me for the fright. Astrid just laid there like a queen, all snug under a blanket with her hair flowing perfectly down the rest of her body. Damn.

“What the hell happened last night, Spencer?” Jess said with a calm tone, trying not to make anything anymore stressed, she flicked her ginger hair out of her sleepy eyes and sat back down on the couch next to Astrid.

“I... I can’t remember.” As I started Connor trailed into the kitchen and put the kettle on.

“I remember Astrid talking about her horror story then… I blacked out” Connor yelled from the hallway

“Isn’t your mum supposed to be coming this morning?”

“Nah, just got a text. She’s coming in the afternoon, probably after school.”I started to pack away the mattresses and then laid on the floor as Connor brought in some cookies and coffee. He handed Astrid and jess one and just passed me a cup of orange juice. Just what I needed

“What are you going to tell Jarrod?” Connor inquired.

“Fight with a cat?” I said jokingly.  After we woke up properly we all headed off to school, walking with company was a lot better, then again I was covered in blood and cuts. I looked like a freak. We went through the gates at the front of the school and then Jess turned to me.

"I'll see you first period right? Science..."

"Alright, See ya" She gave me a hug and whispered

"Take care" I grinned and felt warm in her arms, then watched the pair of them, Jess and Astrid walk away. Connor and I decided to sit in the canteen for the morning and I brought up something with him as more and more people showed up. Before I began I put my jumper on as I noticed more people staring at the ridiculous amounts of cuts on my arms.

"So what's the deal with your dad man? You staying another night at mine?"

"Yeah, can I?" Connor looked anxious as soon as I said the word 'dad'

"Of course, plus we have to plan that gathering you so... Righteously spoke about the other day"

"Ha-ha... Remember what happened last time we had a gatho?"

I had a flash back

("Yeah, chuck the gasoline in the fryer, no fuckin' worries" Next thing you know Connor had third degree burns from fried turkey.)

"Oh yes... That was quite memorable." Connor giggled along with me about the whole thing. Then he suddenly stops as someone walked past. She was darkness, she had dark piercing eyes and deathly black hair, she didn't take notice of us, or of anyone for that matter. It was weird, she was so... Disconnected from everyone.

"I saw that Connor... Perving on the new girl, Isn't her name... Kate? "

"Listen, punk." Before long we were hitting each other and giggling again. The bell went for first period and I went toward my class and he went to his.

I waltzed into Science and naturally... Ms Caspar held me back before going into class.

"Give this to Jarrod after class..." She handed me a copy of that new Halo game that just came out on the Xbox One

"Really." I look at her.

"Get in" She closed the door behind me and I sat next to Jess at the back.

"Hey Spencer, read this..." She held her phone down in her lap and passed it to me. It was a news report. It was about a lab that recently got destroyed, but no one knows why.

"Wasn't that the Lab that was doing cure experiments..." I said, this seemed like a mystery

"Yeah, the police don't think it was an accident either." Jess replied.

"You wanna, go do some detective work Jess?" I grinned at her, and by that I meant secretly wag school and see what actually happened at that lab.

"Of course, detective Grimm." She grinned back and we waited for class to end. But little did we know, that lab explosion was no accident at all... Ms Caspar dismissed us and I went by at the nurse's to deliver Ms Caspar’s gift to Jarrod.

"Oh... How..." He started blushing up.

"Yeah, fancy that eh?" I chuckled with him.

"Spencer...?"

"Yeah, Jarrod?" I went closer toward his desk as he called me back before I opened the door. I gestured to Jess to wait outside for me. She opened the door and closed it, letting the fresh cold go into the nurse's office.

"Roll up your sleeves." Jarrod ordered. Ah Christ. This wasn't going to be good. I did as he told and he looked more and more shocked as more of my cuts got uncovered.

"Jesus, Spencer... What have you done..." I sat down and explained what happened at the sleepover from my point of view, before and after passing out.

"Right... But these cuts, it's like something massive has just... Ripped through your skin... Anyway, let me disinfect them at least and I'll let you go." Jarrod gave me a warm smile and did what he said he would, I said my farewell and joined Jess outside.

"Ready detective?"

"Of course, Officer Grimm." We snuck out of the front gate, too easy. No one was around. We crossed the road and I said.

"We better go back to my place, to change out of our uniforms. Then we'll catch the bus." I advised Jess

"Good thinking ninety-nine." We did just that and I talked about the new girl on the way there.

"Oh finally... I was starting to think Connor was gay!" I chuckled with Jess about how she said that. Then we were on the bus. I wish I knew what we were walking into before getting on the bus...
