The old tunes started booming from the jukebox at the end of pops diner. The diner wasn't very full , but there was enough people on there to keep pop busy. In a booth sat Fred Andrews on his own ,with a vanilla milkshake.
Suddenly the bell above the door rang and in walked fp Jones . He walked straight to the counter and ordered a coffee . Pop gave him a suggested wait time and fp nodded and thanked him.
"Hey hey" Jokingly yelled Fred to fp . It was just as if they were back in high school, and they enjoyed that.
"Fred Andrews , well how have you been bud!" Fp said playfully smacking his friend on the arm like they used to.
"Fine man, Archie's been out a lot so I've had a lot of time to myself. To be completely honest with you fp, I've just been practicing my guitars. Just like the good old days" Said Fred letting out a hearty laugh.Fp smiled as his friend gave him an idea. "Fred , this may be to much to ask b I need a favour." Fred's smile faded as he worried. "I knew you wouldn't just want a catch up fp. What do you need , money?" Replied Fred.
"No Fred, this is serious. More serious than you know. It's important." Fp stared Fred dead in the eye so he knew he wasn't lying.
"Whatever you need fp I'm here. Always." He smiled and nodded to show his loyalty. It was no secret Fred was one of the nicest people in town. He and fp had gone way back to kindergarten. They were best friends their whole life until fp got a drinking problem and Fred had to fire him.
But since fp had cleaned up his act , him and Fred were getting closer ."Fred , I know this sounds weird. But I need you to go to the coopers." That one sentence confused Fred already. "And ask chic if he's interested in teaching you guitar"
"Fp what? I've never met chic before , he's Alice and Hal's child from back in the day. Nobody knows him man. What makes you think he'll say yes anyway!" Replied Fred.
Fp just looked down and put his teaspoon in his coffee swirling it around.
Fred just stared at him - "Wait. Why do you want me to get chic? Do you wanna see Alice alone" Fred laughed , as he was just joking.
But fps silence made it clear. - "oh my god fp! She's married! What are tor intentions!"
"Shhh!"said fp realising Fred was practically shouting - "I don't have any intentions of the sort okay , and I know she's married, that's the problem. I can't really say anymore or you'll think I'm crazy but you just need to trust me okay. Please , can you trust me and just take out chic?" Fp said with hope and despair in his voice all mixed into one.Fred nodded , even though he didn't agree with whatever fp wanted to do. All in all he was his best friend , and he had his back.
"Of course . How long do you need him gone though? My guitar skills are rusty" Spoke Fred , giggling a little at his own joke.
"Thanks man, I owe you one" he tapped Fred on his arm own last time before hopping up and out of the booth. Leaving Fred still sat there .** at the cooper residence**
There was a knock at the door , it was only Alice and chic come because Betty was at school and she wouldn't be back until late hours due to fp's commands , Jughead was taking her out. And Hal was away on a men of journalism spa retreat.
Alice was lay on the sofa with a small glass of wine , watching TV. And chic was washing the pots for his mom since she was still in need of rest.
"I'll get it mom" Chic said as he dried his hands on the towel from the counter.
"Okay honey , thankyou" shouted Alice from the living room. Two more knocks sounded out, Chic rushed to the door and opened it to find none other than Fred Andrews.
"Sorry , uhh who are you?" Said chic to the man at the door.
"My names Fred. Fred Andrews, are you doing anything? I'm a friend of the family. Uhh I was wondering if you'd teach me guitar ? My sons friends with Betty and he can play to but he's busy , he told me that you could help me" he stumbled out , Fred was a bad liar."Sorry to disappoint you Fred but I'm not interested" said chic as he started to close the door until -- "I'll pay you" he blurted out last minute.
That caught Chic's attention. He could use some money, in fact no he needed money."Very well , let me get my coat" spoke chic in reply to Fred's offer.
Alice heard the voices and realised it was Fred and so she struggled and got up to see her son and Fred.
"Excuse me Fred what are you doing at my door? With my son?" She said with sass,as always .
"Relax mom , it's fine . It's just a job" said chic as he ran upstairs.
But Alice knew that Fred was up to something ."Your a good man Fred but it's three in the afternoon and you are here asking my son to what? Help you learn guitar, I'm on to you Andrews" she spoke wittily. "Alice , I heard your sons gifted and I needed help so I thought about coming here , I'm paying him , so I don't know why your so upset" he spoke with a fake smile. He hated lying but he had to do this , he promised fp.
"Very well Fred" she said squinting her eyes , still in disbelief.
"I'll be fine mom it's just for like three hours, I'll be back at six and we can order a pizza or something okay?" He said trying to reassure his mom, giving her a hearty smile.
Alice just nodded and Fred smiled at them both and took chic next door to Fred's and then Alice closed the door behind them.
Although Alice was suspicious she knew Fred was a good man and she trusted chic enough to know he's safe . Plus she didn't have the energy to be anxious she ached and she was so tired. Before she knew it she was asleep on the sofa with the tv still playing in the background.A/N - hey guys!
