My grip was getting weaker, and I could feel the rusty metal, that held us above the clouds, begin to shake. It surprised me that it had even waited this long to finally give out on its support.
I looked over at her, we had long forgotten our names, and how we had even gotten here in the first place, all we knew, was that we'd been here for a long time. A painfully long time. I licked my chapped lips, taking a deep breath before I spoke, "It's soon bound to happen," I told the naked woman.
Her dead eyes barely payed attention, mind probably somewhere else. Her long white hair covered almost everything there was, the milky skin she wore, drained and frail.
"Let's do it," Her soft tone spoke, I could almost feel the pain in her voice, "Do what?" I questioned, she hadn't spoken to me before, ever. In our years spent together, she barely smiled. "Jump," She clarified, making me gasp, "What? Why?" I wanted to face her but the shaky poles would've colasped if so.
"We can't keep going like this, you can't," She closed her eyes as she spoke again. Her words were all soft spoken, they sounded sweet in my ears, and if I hadn't known better, I would've lusted over her. I knew it was stupid to think that at a time like this.
The breeze had blown, our natural enemy. She sighs, and before I knew what was happening, she held my hands, a fast action for someone her age.
If I were to describe her texture, she was like a soft flower, the kind you'd want to pick in the garden. The kind you would treasure. This was what she reminded me of.... The garden's flowers.
And so it began. The never ending fall. We'd never seen the bottom from where we stood, maybe this would clear our minds at last - as for what, and how we got to where we were. "A... am.." I heard her speak, a musty voice I couldn't confirm was hers. I simply closed my eyes.
A few moments, we were closer, our hands never left. Our minds were aware of this. We could speak now, "Tell me... Where do you think this ends?" I ask, looking into her pretty hazel eyes.
I got no reply, a simple gesture showing she had no idea, "Do you think it will end?" Her voice rung out at last, but now, it was my turn to be speechless. I had no hope, no idea. All I could do for both of us, was to hold on tighter.
"Just close your eyes," I tell her, pulling her close to my body, from what I could tell, we'd land on our heads first, immediately killing us both. Death was inevitable.
The wind seemed to have taken liking to us, or maybe we just grew used to the pressure, for now it didn't seem like the nasty cold wind that had hit our bodies before. This wind was calm, peaceful. A zephyr.
I opened my eyes for the last time, to see hers meeting mine, "Adam... Do you remember who I am?" She asks, and I furrow my brows. Was that what I was called? Adam? I shake my head a she began to explain everything.
"Adam... My Love... I've done you such wrong..." She tears up, I hadn't even notice the change that she'd gone through, she was no longer the old, brittle woman I had met from above. She was now a young, beautiful maiden.
I looked at myself, I had changed as well. A dramatic change, for both of us. I bring my eyes back to hers once she begins to talk again, and I could see my reflection in her eyes, I had grown younger.
"The garden... I had sinned, and my sin has brought forth our punishment, I wish I could've been better... I wish I could take it all back..." She hugs me, sobbing gingerly, "Adam.... I am Eve." With those final words, we had reached out destination, and thus began, the evolution of humans. The evolution of sin.
