Mom

Mo-

It's already seven? God, it seems like everyday it gets earlier.

I go to my bathroom and take a shower. After I'm done with the shower, I go and pick out my outfit for the day. I apply some makeup and brush out my hair so it dries into it's natural curls.

I yell, "Goodbye," to my mom and I think she yelled one back with a "have a good day at school," but I'm not sure.

I used my dad's car because he's staying home from work today.

I pull into my regular spot, only to see that the class whore is in my spot. I didn't even react because it's just one little thing to worry about so, I let it go.

School starts in about twenty minutes, so that gives me just enough time to park and get all the way to the side of the building where my first block is.

I FINALLY find a spot where I can park. It's just my luck that it's all the way across the school ground.

Ten minutes until school starts.

I literally run across campus to my first block and thank the freakin Lord that I had all of my books in  my bag.

 Or so I thought.

I am just about to walk into my first block and realize that I left my bag in the car.

5 minutes until class.

I couldn't just go into class without my books... so I just sprinted.

I sprinted like a cobra was chasing after me (or slithering). Or like someone was trying to kidnap me but I was too fast for them.

I finally got back to my block... But with my luck, I was late.

"Ms. O'Conner, would you like to explain to the class why you were late?"

"No Mrs. Scott."

"Okay then, sit down."

Okay well clearly someone crapped in her coffee this morning.

I just ignored her regular behavior and focused on what she was teaching.

I felt someone look at me and turn around to where I could feel the stare come from, which was my left.

Aaron Stale.

Aaron Stale is your typical bad boy. He shows no emotion and always has a stone-cold expression on his face. He is emotionless, except when it came to Macey. He sometimes cracked a smile.

Why would Aaron be looking at me? I mean, he was Macey's last boyfriend. He claimed that he "cared" about her. I honestly thought that Macey was just a booty call to him. But by the way he was staring at me, it seems as if she was something more to him. This might sound cliche, but the emotions in his eyes were showing something like she was anything but.

Fear.

Confusion.

Grieve.

Worry.

And last but not least, sorrow.

"Wow, he might actually have a soul." I thought.

Apparently I didn't say that in my head, I said it out loud.

"Ms. O'Conner would you like to share with the class?"

"No."

"Well, if you're not going to share then I might as well write you a detention."

I didn't want a detention, but I didn't want to tell her what I said.

"I said I can't wait for lunch because there's pizza on the menu."

"That's not what you said, you said wow, he might actually have a soul," said Ricky, the nerd and apparently tattle-tale now.

"Is that true?"

I just stayed silent and she got the hint that that's what I said.

"Ms. O'Conner, you have detention for the next week for lying."

"Great, thanks so much Ricky, I really appreciated it." I muttered to Ricky.

The bell rings and I slowly get up and out of class.

I go to my locker to unload all of my books and get ready for the next block.

Out of the corner of my eye, I see Aaron walking toward me.

"Hey, how are you?" Aaron asked.

I feel like complete and utter crap because yesterday my best friend was found dead in a lake. But, other than that, I'm awesome. Obviously I didn't say that because screw emotions.

"I'm good. How are you?"

"I'm shocked.... I mean do you want to talk about this after school?"

As I was about to respond, the bell rang and I run off to class because I didn't need another detention.

I guess you could say the rest of my blocks went smoothly. They were boring, but teachers aren't being payed for being interesting, they're being paid to teach.

Anyway, I WALK to detention and sat down. There are only about ten people here, apparently that's a lot less than usual.

"Okay, there is no talking, texting, whispering of any kind. If I see any, you will have an extra week of detention. Am I clear?"

We all nodded in understanding of her words.

"I will be right back."

She left the room and I turned around to see my best friend here, Jack Davis.

"Hey, how are you holding up?"

"I'm good. How are you doing?"

"You don't have to lie. I can tell that you're beating yourself up on the inside."

Damn, he could read me like a book.

"Whatever, how are you doing?"

"Um I'm doing good, besides the fact that Macey was found yesterday. She was freakin murdered and the worst part is that they don't even suspect anyone that could be the murderer!"

"I know."

"We should find out who murdered her. Like, let's be detectives. OMG, that could be so cool!"

"I'm already working on it, Jack."

"Ok then lets work on it together."

I debated in my head whether or not I should let him in on my plan.

I decided that I SHOULD let him work on her case with me.

"Ok."

"Come on I-wait, did you say ok?"

"Yeah, I did."

"Wow, when do you want to start?"

"You can come over after school tomorrow."

"Okay then, I look forward to it."

"Can't wait."

"Who was talking?!" Mrs. Scott asked/yelled.

No one said anything.

"Okay well your two hours are up."

Everyone got up and left the classroom and I went with them.

Aaron was waiting outside the door.

"So about that date-"

"It's not a date and if this weren't about Macey, I wouldn't be going."

"Whoa, no need to get defensive."

"Look, are we going to talk about her or not?"

"Yeah, I'll meet you at Bland's Cafe?"

"Sure."

And with that, I went to the car. It's only about a two minute drive from school to the Cafe. I pull into a parking space and go talk to Aaron.
