There was a story in West Sumatera about a rebellious man named Malin Kundang. Malin Kundang and his mother in the village in poverty. Every day Malins mother assisting fishermen to take out fish from their ship to get some money. But, they still could not fulfill their daily needs.
One day, Malin decide to go to find a job. He Datuk Bakri sailing from one sea to elsewhere. He his mother alone in the village, after he had promised his mother to come back when he became rich.
Year by year had gone, and Malin Kundang really a successful and rich man. Malin then to the village with his wife for holiday. There, Malins mother so happy knowing that her son home. But, when she Malin Kundang and his wife, Malin Kundang not to know his mother.
Who are you? Poor woman! You just pretend to be my mother, dont you? Go away from me! Malin said roughly and left his mother alone in the village.
Malins mother was so sad and then she cursed him Malin how dare you refuse me! I am your mother! I curse you to be a stone
Malin and his wife sailed again, but suddenly there was a big wave attacking their ship. Finally, Malin Kundang turned into a stone. It was because of his mothers curse. He deserved do receive the curse, didnt he?
