PATCHES 3

Chapter 14

"Good morning." Tim says as he walks into the kitchen, leaning over and kissing Adam and then his mom on the cheeks.

"Good morning, Sweetheart." Dena smiles. "You hungry? Where's Jenika?"

"Uh, just coffee right now." Tim says as he props his crutches against the wall and sits down.

"Mmm bay?" Patches asks as he holds a piece of bacon out to Tim.

"No, thank you, Buddy. You eat it." Tim smiles and tugs gently on Patches's beard.

Patches giggles and shoves the strip of bacon in his mouth.

"You such a pig, Bubba." Emily laughs.

"Is something wrong?" Dena asks, laying a hand on her son's shoulder.

"No. Why do you ask?" Tim says as he mindlessly stirs his coffee.

"Two things." Dena says with a smile. "One, you never answered me about Jenika. And two, you never turn down bacon."

"She's still asleep." Tim answers. "And it's just something I have to handle on my own."

He quickly turns his attention to Emily before his mom had time to reply.

"Where's your mom? Is she up yet?" Tim asks.

"Uh huh, she taking a shower." Emily says before taking a bite of eggs.

"I was taking a shower but I'm done now." Kirstie smiles as she walks into the kitchen. "Mmmm smells good in here."

"Thank you." Dena smiles. 

"So. What do you kids want to do today?" Tim asks. He glances up as Jenika walks in.

"Let's go to da moobies." Adam smiles. "And .. and eat popcown."

"Mmm moo pop." Patches claps. (movie, popcorn)

"That sounds fun." Kirstie says as she sits down between Emily and Patches. "What do y'all wanna go see?"

"Wampage wid da Wok." Adam grins. (Rampage with The Rock)

"Wam Wok" Patches nods. (Rampage, Rock)

"You know it's got a big monkey on it, right?" Tim asks. "And other big scary animals."

"Uh, huh." Adam nods. "We thaw da ad on t.b."

"Well, okay. We can just make a family night out of it. We can go out to eat and then go to the movies." Kirstie smiles.

"Can I tay wid Gwanma?" Emily asks. "I don't want to go to the movie." (stay with grandma)

"That will be fine. She can stay with me. We'll make cookies." Dena says with a smile.

"YAY!!" Emily claps.

"You'll have to count me out too." Jenika states.

Tim gives a slight eye-roll that didn't quite go unnoticed.

"Really? But I thought you liked going to the movies." Kirstie says.

"Oh, I do. It's just, uh, I've already made plans." Jenika says. "One of my ex-co-workers, Linda, heard that I was in town and wanted to get together tonight for a few drinks."

Tim slowly raises his head and glares at his wife. She told him the co-worker's name was Carol.

"Oh. Okay?" Kirstie says as she notices Tim staring at his wife with a not too pleasant look on his face. "Guess we'll go see the big monkey, right, boys?"
