Prompto's POV

"So? How did she take it?" Noctis asked me at school on Monday. I smiled.

"She seemed like she wasn't surprised at all. She didn't get mad or disgusted. It actually kinda seemed like it was something she heard every day." I said with a smile. Noctis smiled at me.

"That's good to hear, Prompto." He said. I smiled at him. My heart leapt in my chest and I turned away with a blush.

"Don't start playing shy." Noctis whispered to me. I pushed him away.

"Noct... not here... Later." I said. Noctis smirked. He looked around for anyone else, and once the coast was clear. He kissed my cheek. I giggled and blushed.

"Noct!" I said. He smiled at me, making my heart skip.

"Come on. One before I go?" He asked.

"Alright, but don't get sneaky!" I said. He smiled and turned his head to the side. I quickly kissed his cheek, then ran off to class, leaving the prince I liked smiling behind me.

Dawn's POV

A few weeks later

I fought back another daemon. I sighed as it fell and the screams of the damned filled the air as it desolved. I turned and took down three more.

I dodged out of the way of a slash of a ronin before I defeated it. My phone rang in my pocket. I pulled it out and answered as I switched from my katana to a pistol, jumping up on a rock to shoot the tarantulas running across the ground.

"Dawn Caramella." I answered as I began to shoot.

"Ms Caramella? This is Miss Casavant from the high school." The voice on the other side said.

"Mira, drop the formalities. We've been friends longer than I've been a Kingsglaive." I said.

"Alright, Dawn. I'm calling about Prompto." She said.

"What, did he get another outstanding achievement in academics? That'll be, what, his fifth one?" I asked. I leapt back as an Arachne lunged at me.

"No, this is a disciplinary action. During class today, he jumped over a row of desks to catch some food that Prince Noctis threw." She said.

"Shit!" I ducked the Arachne, switching my pistol to my katana and slicing through it.

"Well, I hope you're punishing the prince, too, Mira." I said.

"Of course. They interrupted a Shakespeare lesson. Both were removed from class." She said. I stabbed the Arachne and hopped back as it turned in to a cloud of black smoke as more screams of the damned filled the air.

"Ouch. Shakespeare. Low blow." I said.

"Dawn, are you working right now?" Miranda asked.

"Field mission, yes." I said as I walked away from the now clear area.

"Then we'll meet about this once you get back to Insomnia. Which will be?" She asked. I watched as an Iron Giant rose from the ground.

"One week from now." I said.

"Great. Alright, I'll see you then." She said.

"Aight, my dude. Try not to be too harsh on him, aye?" I asked and then hung up.

"Alright pretty boy." I said as the Iron Giant groaned at me. I summoned my katana and readied myself.

"Let's dance." I said and lunged for it.

The next week

"So... he launched himself over a row of desks to catch some food that Noctis threw... to prove a point?" I asked.

"That's right." Miranda said and drank her tea. I shrugged and took another gulp of coffee.

"Did it at least look cool?" I asked.

"Dawn, are you seriously going to ignore this?" She asked.

"Yup." I said. She glared at me.

"Mira, it's the first time he's ever acted out like this. He didn't tell me about it and he thinks he's gotten away with it. You gave him and Noctis detention. I think that's enough." I said.

"Dawn." She said.

"Look, it's only this one time. He's been my good boy for as long as I can remember. If he does it again, I'll talk to him. But for now, I'll let him think he got away with it." I said. She sighed.

"You know, for a long time I questioned it. And while I was pissed that he interrupted me on Shakespeare, it was hard not to laugh. That day, it was incredibly obvious that he is your son." She said. I shrugged.

"The only way it could have been more obvious is if he punched Carlott Odessa in the nose for spreading rumors about his best friends." She said with a chuckle.

"Bringing that up again, are we?" I asked with a laugh.

"Always. That's what brought us together. You broke Carlott's nose, you made a friend." She said.

"A best friend, aye?" I said. She grinned at me. I grinned back.

"And there it is. That grin of yours that you share with your son." She said. I laughed.

"Hey, Mira, don't be so harsh on Prompto. It's not normal for him to pull stunts like that. Just go easy on him. He's a good boy. He really is." I said.

"He's like you before your mom left." She said. I looked at her.

"You forgot. We were play mates. Then Artemis leaves and you dissapeared until high school. Who ever would have guessed that that sweet little girl with and optimistic outlook on life would end up being a street thug turned crownsguard turned Kingsglaive." She said.

"Yeah. Funny how life turns out sometimes, aye?" I asked.

"And then who would have guessed you'd be a mom after that?" She said. I laughed.

"Yeah. Who knew. It's funny, life. One minute you think you have everything figured out and it's turned on it's head." I said. She nodded.

"Who knows where things go from here." She said.

"Only the gods." I said. She sighed.

"May they have mercy on us. If the starscourge continues like this, we'll be destroyed." She said.

"Hail to the king of light." I said.

"Hail to the king of light." She repeated.

I returned home after that. Prompto slept soundly on the couch. I shook my head at him. I lifted him from the couch and carried him to his bed and tucked him in. I kissed his forehead and then returned to bed.
