Worried about Nothing

For better or for worse you didn't see Professor Snape for a while after that. You had gone back home for Christmas holiday. For the better half of the week your had been depressed and worried over what would happen when you went back, what you should say, what you should do, how you should act. But the festive celebrations gradually whisked those thoughts away as you sat down to enjoy your time with your family and friends back home. In fact, even through the whole train ride back to Hogwarts the events of that night hadn't crossed your mind. That is, until you sat in the great hall staring up at the professor with an awkward expression as you tried to regain your appetite.

Oh, how blissful those holidays were where you could forget all your worries and enjoy yourself in the moment. You felt like slapping past self for not thinking of a war plan during all that free time you had because now you were at a loss, completely unprepared for the task in front of you. Thankfully you didn't have potions class today so you didn't have to see him. But if you avoided him wouldn't that be more obvious? You had gone there during free time everyday after all. Then again, if you did decide to go, would that make any sense? He probably wouldn't want you to show up again outside of class after that.

As you sat there working yourself up, a hand tapped on your shoulder. Looking up, you saw people filtering out of the Great Hall. You were one of the last people there. A quick glance told you that Professor Snape had already left; hopefully he hadn't seen you in this state. You thanked the girl for letting you know that it was time to go and assured her you were fine when she asked if you were okay. The anxiety must have shown on your face. Yeah, you really hoped he hadn't seen anything.

During your morning classes you were unable to focus, almost uprooting a precious plant instead of the weeds in the Herbology greenhouse. Luckily no one had seen that blunder. Eventually you locked yourself in a bathroom stall to give yourself the time to think without worrying about anything else. Since you had decided not to give up, then why should you do anything different? You decided to chase after him with a cheery attitude, forgetting that that wasn't your forte.

By the time your free period rolled around you were standing in front of the door to the potions room. Your mind told you to act as you normally did but apparently you had forgotten how to. You wracked your brain as you tried to recall how you normally acted, your body trembling with nervousness. Hearing the sound of footsteps coming towards you from down the hall you quickly opened the door and flung yourself into the room.

"H-hello, Professor." You tried to say in a peppy voice, but your voice cracked in the middle. Professor Snape looked up from his desk at you and replied with a "good evening, Miss (y/l/n)" before continuing what he was doing before. You stood dumbly by the door, gaping at him. He didn't say anything, didn't even try to distance himself from you as you surely thought he would. Were you so little in his eyes that he didn't even take the time to worry about such things. You shook your head and collected your thought. It didn't matter. What mattered was that you were still allowed to be near him and that was enough.

You walked to the bookshelf and grabbed the book you had been reading last time before he could notice that something was wrong and continued studying the properties of different potions ingredients. Sure, it may seem like things have gone back to square one, but doesn't it mean you still have some sort of chance? You clenched your fist as you decided to chase after him with everything you had.
