A Potion for Two (Snape x Reader)

A New Place to Study

"Can't you teach me hands on with the actual ingredients? Books are too boring!" You whined. In truth, books were fine, but if you could have him teach everything to you himself you'd be able to get even closer to him.

"No. You will read the books." Seeing you pouting, he smirked, "I wouldn't want to waste them all." You glared at him before giving in and taking another look at the piece of paper he had given you. On it were a  potion ingredients that you had to learn about on your own. Essentially, you had just asked for a whole load of work. Your task was to learn about the different ingredients, how to tell when their efficacy was the highest, their effects, side effects, and how they interacted with the other ingredients on the list. There was no way you could complete this during class time only so it became your homework as well. You sighed in defeat.

You went to the library to go do some research. You might as well get it over with; you could try to drag your feet but you'd probably get in trouble for it. Browsing amongst the bookshelves you furrowed your brows. You grabbed a book and flipped through it. "Not in this one either..." you grumbled, confused. None of the books you had picked up had much more than a cursory sentence on the ingredients and some of the ingredients you hadn't seen at all! Peeking around a row of bookshelves, your frown deepened. You had been searching through all the potion related books for a week and there wasn't much library left for you to search.

Half an hour before the library closed, you had finally gone through all the books. Confused, you made your way to the librarian's desk. Upon seeing Madam Prince, however, you had second thoughts. She wasn't someone you wanted to deal with so you decided to ask Professor Snape about the matter first. You made your way to the potions room quickly, there were only two hours left until curfew, but alas, he wasn't in.

The matter frustrated you. Why would he tell you to research something you can't find research materials for? You made your way back to your house dorm and saw your 6th year friends in the common room. Although you tried to talk with them like you used to, there weren't any common topics between you and it became awkward. You excused yourself and made your way to bed, throwing yourself face first onto your bed and groaning into the pillow. How frustrating. All of it was. Eventually you managed to fall asleep after your thoughts ran around in circles for an hour.

You waited until the coast was clear to go up to the door to the potions classroom and give it a knock. Anyone would think you were crazy, going to the dreaded class on a weekend, straight after breakfast. And that included Professor Snape, who you were there to see.

"What are you here for, Miss (y/l/n)?" he said, after opening the door. You squeezed past him, ignoring the the look he gave you. "Why do none of the books in the library have anything about these ingredients?" You questioned, waving the list of ingredients in front of his face, "are they all in the restricted section or something? Why would you make me research something that I can't find any information on?"

He ignored your tone and replied drearily, "if that's the case then just continue using the ones that you've been reading in class. They have all the information you need."

"But you won't let me take them out of the classroom!" You yelled in indignation.

"Correct. I will not permit them to leave my room." He raised a brow as your voice raised before turning back to his desk to continue working.

"Then how am I going to finish the assignment you gave me? It's going to take me forever if I only work on it during class," an idea came to you as you said this and you continued, "unless you let me come in and study outside of class."

"That's fine." He replied cooly. You gaped at him in shock. You hadn't expected that he'd actually agree to your request. "Come again?"

"You're free to come in whenever I don't have classes to work on your research as long as I'm in the room." You couldn't believe this was happening. You knew that some of the other professors would occasionally let their favorite students sit in their classroom to study, but you didn't think that Professor Snape would allow that. Not that anyone had ever wanted to try before. 

"Sweet! I'll be right back, gotta' go get my stuff." You managed to say after recovering from your surprise. You had to make sure you took the chance now in case he decided to go back on his words. Hopefully you'd actually be able to concentrate on your work when it was just the two of you.
