Agreeing to go with Kacie to Tristan's party was not one of the best ideas I've had. Kacie, being the girly girl she is, decides to go shopping for a new dress the day before the party. For a party. One that she would probably never wear again. I mean, if you've seen Kacie's closets, you would be wondering the same thing.
I follow her quietly as we walk into Forever 21, scanning the store for anyone I know. When I see that everyone there are complete strangers, I finally calm down a little. I never liked seeing people from my school in public. They never really expect me to be in a store like Forever 21, anyways.
"How about... This one?" Kacie asks as she holds the dress up to her neck, staring at her reflection in the mirror. I didn't even get to reply before she put the dress back onto the rack,"It makes me look really fat."
I sigh. Seriously, Kacie? You're as skinny as a stick! Nothing could ever make you look fat! I explained that to her many times but she, being that dramatic girl she is, didn't believe me. I didn't even bother this time. Nothing changes her mind.
"Oh my goodness. Solace." Kacie squeals and holds a peach colored dress up. To be honest, it isn't that bad. It isn't too showy or too nun-like.
"That's actually pretty nice." I say, taking a closer look at it. It's strapless, and has that cute sweetheart neckline. It's skirt bunches up to make it look more dramatic.
"It'll look perfect on you!" She exclaims. Okay... No. When I said it isn't too showy or too nun-like, that criteria is fit for her. The dress is, one, strapless and it is above the knee. No way would I ever wear that.
"You know I wouldn't even consider that." I say, taking the dress from her hand and hanging it back on the rack."And we're not even shopping for me."
"No! It'll look so cute on you! I'll pay for it! Besides, you don't have a dress, so this shopping trip is for you, too." She argues.
"I can just wear jeans. It's a party. You can wear whatever you want to wear. It's a free country."
"Yes... But his house, his rules. He's doing a prom theme."
"Then I won't go!"
"Solace Spencer, you take that back right now or else I will tell your mom what you did on your sixteenth birthday."
Okay, that shut me up. No, I did not do anything bad bad. I just... sort of almost got her fired. It really wasn't my fault, but that day she brought a guy home. And I got mad. Because she brought a guy home. So I sort of kinda provoked him and he got mad and then he left. I was pretty satisfied with myself. Until my mom came back. She was on the verge of crying, wondering why the ambassador was so mad at her. She begged him to not fire her, though. I didn't know that he was the ambassador. I thought he was some hook-up. She never knew it was me that almost got her fired and I don't intend on letting her know.
Dumb? Yeah, I know. Just one of the many reasons my mom would disown me for.
"I'm kidding, I'm kidding. I'm coming."
"And you are wearing this dress." she smirks.

*The Day of the Party*
Solace's Room
Kacie decided to wear a dark blue high-low dress with a big slit shaped like a skinny football on her back. I though it was decent. Better than mine. As soon as I got into mine, I felt awkward and cold.
Kacie forced me to put on some makeup and to do my hair. She poked my eyes and pulled my hair out for almost an hour and a half before the bell rang.
"Do you have a date?" I ask, wondering if she is brave enough to tell her date to pickk her up at the castle. She is.
"No." She replies suspiciouly."I'll go check who it is, okay?"
Technically, it would be my job, but the high wedges she put me in did not allow me to be able to go downstairs.Only a minute after she left to get the door, I hear a knock on the door.
Basically crawling on the floor to get there, I open the door, wondering why she locked it. But it wasn't locked.
"What are you doing, Kacie? Can't you open the do-" I didn't finish the sentence before I realize that it is Kyle standing at the door, not Kacie."Oh." was all I could manage.
He was dressed up, too. Not suit and tie dressed up, but polo and dress pants dressed up. He actually looks decent for once.
"Solace?" He asks, as if he couldn't imagine that I am wearing something like this. I couldn't have imagined it either.
"I know it looks weird. You dont have to keep on looking at me like that. Maybe I shouldn't go to the party." I wonder why I was suddenly beating myself up about how I look.
"No, no. You look... Stunningly beautiful." There wasn't a hint of humor in his voice. But he could fake that pretty well to get the ladies. I glare at him, putting my hands on my hips.
"Okay, stop lying and get out."
He just stood there for a while before stumbling a bit and closing the door.
"Was that Kyle?" Kacie asks after she came back, explaining to me that the guy was the mailman. He just wanted to deliver and package to Ms. Zimmerman.
"Yeah."I reply, still wondering why he was acting so weirdly.
"What did he say?"
Well, apart from the obviously lie that he told me, he didn't say anything else. So I went with,"Nothing." even though I knew that it wasn't enough for her.
I hear a knock on the door again, but this time, I didn't want to get up anymore. So Kacie got it for me because she owes me for doing my makeup and my hair.
"It's Kyle again." Kacie says, asking him what he wants in the sweetest way possible. I block their conversation out, focusing on stretching my skirt as long as it can.
"He asked if he could borrow your hair dyer." she explains. I point to the cabinet underneath my sink and she gives it to him.
"He should've just asked me. He was just standing there looking like an idiot earlier."
"Maybe he was too busy staring at you because you look so dang beautiful Solace! And then he forgot everything!" I look at her weirdly,"But seriously, Solace. You look amazing."
"It's all thanks to you, Kacie." I say, looking at my reflection in the mirror. I don't look like the old me at all. I dont have the boring sweaters or the jeans.
The reflection was someone completely different. Someone confident, daring and... Beautiful. It made me squirm a little. But I could get used to this.
"Okay, now it's party time."
