HerTale is the story of how a young girl named Emma fell into the Underground after Chara had bulldozed through there, deciding it wasn't worth it to kill the monsters. Emma goes through the Underground, making friends and enemies and slowly healing broken bonds.

However, when Sans returns to the Underground after killing Chara, he's not happy to find Emma there. He's afraid that she's just like Chara, but the more he hangs around her the more innocent she seems.

One day, though, Emma's soul begins to crack due to stress and anxiety about Sans constantly watching her. She hides this from her friends/enemies, but it slowly grows worse. One day Papyrus finds her staring at her soul. Emma tells him why it's happening and begs Papyrus not to tell Sans, but Papyrus being an innocent bean tells Sans anyway.

Will Sans help or will he leave Emma to die?
