I wandered around Addington aimlessly, I didn't have anywhere in particular to go but I did not want to go to the hole in the wall that was my "home". I was extremely tired and even more so hungry. I only had £15 to my name. That reminded me that my rent was due in one week. I walked into a small cafe and took a seat next to a window. I could feel peoples eyes on me. Even though I had practically no money I still had decent clothing. I had taken the majority of my mother's clothes before I had ran away. It's not like she would need them considering she was dead and all. My piece of shit father killed her when she refused to have sex with him. I know it sounds bitchy that I wasn't heart broken and depressed when she died, but she did let my father beat the shit out of me. I had told her and every time her response was "This isn't who your father is, it's just where he's ended up." The night he killed her, I cut my wrists so badly I nearly died.

I was interrupted from my reminiscing by the waitress coming over and handing me a menu and saying "I'll be back in a few minutes." I looked at the menu and felt my stomach growl at all the delicious looking food items. the waitress came over and said, "What do you want?" I looked at her and raised an eyebrow then said in an intimidating and slow voice, "First, I'd like your stuck up blonde ass to respect your elders since I could tip you more than you make in one hour. Second, I'd like a vanilla cappuccino and a ham and cheese sandwich with tomatoes." the waitress looked shocked and said a quick "Sorry." before rushing away.

I smiled to myself and let my mind wander again to how I would pay my rent that was due in a week. I knew that Mercy Hospital was looking for a secretary. I had experience with that sort of stuff. I decided to go down there after I was finished with my food and coffee. Even if I did get the job my paycheck wouldn't clear in time for me to avoid being vacated from my hole in the wall flat. In about ten minutes the pissy blonde waitress came back with my order and said "Is there anything else that I can get for you ma'am?" "No." I said bluntly. She nodded then began to turn to go back to the cash register when she spun around on her heel and said "Look, about earlier, I'm sorry for being so rude." I looked up at her and said "It's fine. You're still not getting a tip though. First impressions are very memorable. Keep that in mind for future reference." She sighed and walked away. I drank my coffee and soaked in the warmness it introduced to my freezing body. Winters in Addington were exceptionally cold. I ate my food and drank my coffee in silence. I pulled out my very outdated iPhone. According to my phone it was 8:30 p.m. I guess going to the hospital to fill out a job application would have to wait until tomorrow. The waitress came over one last time to hand me the check then walked away without saying a single word. I guess she realized getting a tip out of me was a lost cause. I left £8.50 on the table then got up and grabbed my coat and my to-go coffee cup before I left the cafe. I pulled out my phone and looked at it as I opened the door to the cafe. I had just stepped outside when I felt someone bump into me and my phone crashed to the floor and my coffee fell to the ground, not before it spilled all over me though. I bent down and picked up my phone and realized the screen was shattered. I raised an eyebrow and glared at the ginger man who had not only broken my phone beyond repair but also drenched me in coffee. His eyes widened and he said "Oh my god. I am so so sorry! Oh shit...was your phone by chance broken before?" I raised both of my eyebrows at him and he said "I uh..I guess not. I am so sorry. Uh, damn it. I shouldn't be allowed in public." Despite the circumstances, his last remark made me burst into laughter. I hadn't found something even remotely funny in over a month. I couldn't find it in me to stop laughing. When I finally caught my breath, the ginger man was looking confused and slightly worried. He looked at me for a moment before sticking out his hand and saying "I'm Ed. Ed Sheeran."
