I fell forward onto my knees, and almost collided into the body of the king's, who was still holding onto me. I choked on the air in my lungs, still surprised. From the corner of my eye, I saw Vince, pained and in shock, but I could not force words to escape.
He withdrew his blade, which was only in the king's backside. That is when I noticed the king had his own sword in my torso. Vince must've also noticed because he withdrew it, slowly. It was difficult to breathe, but I tried as hard as I could, to remain alive...I had to, I wasn't going to die because of some wound after many people sacrificed their lives so that I could complete the assassination of this brutal king. Vince pulled me away from the king and laid me into his arms in a cradle format. I began crying, seeing how soft he was trying to be for me. He to, was also crying uncontrollably, but convincingly trying to hide it from me. He had told me to run before, but I didn't. Instead, I dove headfirst and risked my life out on the checkerboard.
The king forced out awkward wheezing sounds until a final gasp signaled he was finally gone. At the same moment, Snow White entered with Prince James shutting out the guards with the large door, then rushing to my side. I sat up and tried to smile, signalling that I was alright, when I really wasn't.
The door burst open and Vince shot up, yet still holding onto my hand. Finally, when the room flooded with guards, he slowly let go, and I watched him fight off 1 to 4 people at one time. He would constantly turn his head to see if I was still on the ground, and it made me feel terrible, so, being ruthless, I stood up. My legs wobbled, but I picked up the sword that had been in the king's back and began attacking the guards surrounding Vince.
"What the hell are you doing, Red?" He choked out, not realizing I was assisting him until he and I where back to back.
"Not standing on the sidelines, couch." I joked, gritting my teeth from the jolt of pain steadily shooting up my body when I would swing the sword.
A guard jumped at Vince behind his back, until I struck him in the shoulder. I could actually feel my blade sink into the layers of flesh then rip out harshly. It was gross, and nauseating.
Soon enough, the world around me began spinning, faster, then faster.
"Vince?!" I cried out, pained, and clutching my head. I fell backwards and Vince caught me, carefully helping me to the ground.
"Red?" He gasped. "Red!" I felt my eyes close, furthermore, my body felt limp, and overwhelming with tiredness. I wanted to just give in, like as if my body was currently falling into the sea, and I had no choice but to watch the fish pass by, while also waiting for all the oxygen to escape my lungs.
------
I woke up in a hospital bed, staring around curiously. Vince was asleep on the chair beside me.He looked so worn out, with his white shirt consisting of several tears and bloodstains. I watched as his eyes fluttered open like a butterfly.
"Your awake." He cheered, kissing my forehead. Vince took my hands into his, as well as staring into my eyes with those pure water drops he calls eyes.
"What's going on?" I asked, sitting up in the bed now. I don't know what it is, but the air feels lovelier, like it's been purified.
"Snow and James are officially king and queen!" He looked happier, than the scene before when he cried for me. He pressed his lips onto mine, and I remembered the king's kiss, so alive and full of painful emotions that I never want to relive. "Can we live our fairy tale now?" He breathed out, threw our interlocking.
"I don't live a fairy tale, even though from birth I was told to cherish my little story line." I cocked my head, watching his confused face.
"Why don't you live a fairy tale?"
"Because, Little Red Riding Hood's grandma was never supposed to die. She was never supposed to live with wolves, nor even engage with one in a relationship. The wolf is actually a bad guy, not some externally hot werewolf. Then finally, the huntsman was supposed to kill you! Not save you!" I explain every detail, and forget the throbbing soreness of my torso.
"Was she not supposed to invade the story line of Snow White also?" He questioned, knowing the response but obviously just trying to continue the conversation so I don't doze off again.
"I wasn't supposed to do a lot of things. Including this...." I kissed him again, but for the longest enjoyable time.
---
The next morning, I felt so much better, so I was discharged by Snow White. Vince and I bid our farewells to the new King and Queen of our land in the front of the gates.
Snow wrapped her arms around my shoulders and drew me into a deep hug. She was amusingly warm but I didn't say anything.
"I'm going to miss you so much!" She squealed, grasping my hands into hers like a prayer. "Promise me that you won't go off and hurt yourself really bad for like, the 5th time!"
"I promise." I concluded, and she kissed me cheek, letting go of my hands. I scooted over to Vince and hugged his waist for security.
"What are you guys going to do now since you aren't being hunted down?" James concerned, looking for a response. Vince smiled and looked at me, just before returning a statement.
"We're going to continue on our fairy tale." He closed his blue eyes then reopened them following a long sigh.
"Thank you for everything Snow, same goes to you James."
"Any time." The both said in sync as Vince and I walked closer to the gate, waving goodbye, then turning to live our lives, in the most enjoyable manner possible.
Not every fairy tale has a happy ending, so why should this one?
