Her Friends

Surprisingly she didn’t cry during the night. I would have to send an email to the school describing the situation of course because she was too young for day care. I also had guests coming over. I couldn’t remember if Liberty said she had gotten her clothes or not.  It was only 6:30 and I had too much to do.

I walked over to Spirit’s crib to see her sleeping sound fully. I grabbed the baby monitor and headed downstairs to the kitchen. I got some bread from the loaf I bought last night.  I put it in the toaster and went to the fridge.  There were bottles upon bottles with blue painters tape on them. Some said specific times while others said morning, noon-ish, night. They all had dates on them. I figured those are when Spirit has to have finished them.

I guess I over exaggerated with the bottle upon bottles thing there where only twenty but that is still a lot of bottles for just one baby.  I took one out and set it on the counter. It read “Wake Up. 8/29/2015.” I looked around the house it was quiet. Much quieter than I am use to, having six siblings in all. When the toaster shot the two pieces of bread up I jumped.  My heart was racing and I chuckled a little bit. I grabbed a paper plate a put my toast on it. Spirit started crying.

I abandoned my breakfast and rushed upstairs. I reached in and lifted Spirit out of her crib.  I cradled her in my arms and she stopped crying. I carried her down stairs into the kitchen, because that was the only place with furniture.  I took the bottle off the counter and put it in the microwave for twenty seconds. I closed the microwave too fast and it slammed shut causing Spirit to cry again.

I tried to get her to stop but just as I did the doorbell rang and echoed through the hallow house. This motherhood thing was not easy and it was just day one. Plus who was at my door at 7:00 am? I rushed to the door as fast as I could with Spirit in my arms. I opened the pearl white door to a small crowd of people smiling. What? Oh yeah! Liberty’s friends.  I motioned for them to come in before rushing back to the microwave.

“A bit busy I see.” One chuckled.

I turned back around with the warm bottle in hand to get a look of her friends.  There were five boys. One with dark brown hair pulled into a quaff with a streak of blonde going in the middle. He was holding a girl’s, who was somewhat shorter than I, hand. She had short red hair and her skin was sprinkled with freckles. She had amazingly pretty blue eyes and she couldn’t stop smiling.

There was also a guy with brown curly hair, he was wearing a My Little Pony shirt. Then there one that just kept looking around, he had brown or black hair, it was hard to say. One was sitting on the floor he wasn’t looking at anything in particular, kind of like he was a million miles from here, he kept wiggling his black lip ring. I looked around for the other one. He was here a minute ago looking out the window. The girl kept giggling, which sounded really cute and I turned around.  Niall. Did everyone know him?

“I’ll introduce everyone, I’m Hailey, and this is Zayn. That is Calum wandering around. Luke is sitting on the floor. The one with the My Little Pony shirt is Ashton.  And the one behind you is Niall.” She smiled.

“Hai, I’ve already met Sam. She was Michael’s roommate for like a day.” Niall rolled his eyes sitting on the counter. I walked over to a corner in the living room and sat down so I could feed Spirit.
