"Where's Fred?"
*At St. Mungo's Hospital for Magical Maladies and Ailments*
***Hermione's POV***
Everybody gasped. Including me. Then everyone was on the verge of tears.
"Gin..." Percy was the first to talk. "Don't you remember?"
"Remember what?"
Luckily, one of the healers interrupted.
"Please, may I talk to the family and friends in private?"
Speechless, everybody went to the healer's office.
"Wh-what is it?" Mrs. Weasley sobbed.
"Well, her condition is fine. It is confirmed that she is obliviated. A very strong one actually. Based on observations, she can remember a few details, and some people. But not her feelings for them."
"What do you mean?"
"She'll take time to remember her feelings...I recommend patience. If she does not respond to an important event, please, don't lash out at her. You might need to explain crucial events of her past, especially the emotional ones." The healer looked as if suggesting that we tell Ginny about the war. "I'll leave you to talk to her now."
After the healer left, a deafening silence engulfed us all.
I was hoping someone would talk.
As if on cue, Ron spoke quietly.
"Should we tell her about Harry?"
Everybody stared at him as if he has two heads.
"What?" He retorted. "It should be emotional. We have to see her reaction, right?"
"For once, Ron is smart," George laughed darkly.
We trooped out of the office and went to Ginny's bedside.
"You look like I'm on my funeral."
Everybody lightened up at her comment. Ginny's back.
"So...I feel like there's some people missing here...two? Three? A hundred thousand million?" she asked. "Why am I the only one talking?"
"That's because nobody has anything to say."
"Thanks for pointing out the obvious, George. Anyway back to my original question, where's Fred? Why isn't he here?"
Percy sighed.
"Perhaps we start at the beginning," he said.
The question is, where to start?
"Okay...um...my last memory is this morning, so care to fill me in?"
"Well, when you were young, ten to be precise, you had a big crush on H-Harry Potter..." I said quietly.
I was in tears now.
I can't take it anymore.
I bumped into someone and ran from the ward, I was going to the waiting room.
"HERMIONE WAIT!" someone called.
I didn't even bother turning around to see who it was.
I slammed the door.
I sat down on the nearest chair and broke down without turning the lights on.
There was a creak of a door and the room suddenly became bright.
***Ron's POV***
"Well, when you were young, ten to be precise, you had a big crush on H-Harry Potter..." Hermione said quietly.
I turned to look at her.
Tears were flowing from her eyes.
She bumped into me and ran away.
Just like first year...when I was making fun of her after class...calling her a nightmare...with Harry...
No, I scolded myself. You are not thinking about Harry. You promised yourself not to.
"HERMIONE WAIT!" I called after her.
She slammed the door of the waiting room.
I stood there for a few seconds, hesitating.
I gently opened the door.
It was dark. I turned the lights on and there she was, crying hysterically.
"Hermione..." I whispered.
I sat next to her and placed my arms on her shoulders.
"It's okay...don't think about him...he left remember...he's...he's just a memory now..." she said to herself.
"Yes Hermione," I agreed. "He's just a memory now."
She wasn't stopping from crying, so I had to cheer her up.
"Here's a memory..." I began. "Remember first year? It started just like it did earlier...you pushed me and ran away...then we saw you in the girl's bathroom crying...with the troll...we needed to save you...and we did....Now here I am...you pushed me and ran away...I saw you crying here...minus the troll...and I need to save you...this time, without Harry..."
She smiled and kissed my cheek.
"And you did save me...again."
"We'll get over him...don't worry..." I said.
