Chapter 18: Silence

 Ilvero Amores POV

The place was oddly silent. I shiver in the tense atmosphere, and look around the streets as I kept walking slowly and steadily.

Shutters were closed tightly, not even rattling in the rather strong wind that whipped my hair around me. The doors seemed to be bolted shut, not a slither of a gap between the heavy wood and the frame. Not a single sound could be heard in the whole of the street. Not a chime of laughter from a child's lips of happiness or the talking of friends. Nothing.

Gulping, I start to walk towards the hospital slightly faster. I don't like it out here, the less time the better...

To e honest, the only words that I could use to describe this scene are Ghost town.

I push open the smoky glass doors and pale instantly. Many soldiers in uniforms of many nationalities lay on the floor bleeding their life source out, wrenching and crying out in pain.

I gag, and feel the cold sweat run across my forehead. Rushing to Japans room, I step around the people being worked on in corridors. I pull the door handle down, and push it open as quickly as possible with my back. My trainers (sneakers) squeak loudly on the polished floor as I step in hurriedly.

I make the mistake of looking to the floor just across the hallway, and a man in his mid 20's gets wheeled quickly along on one  of the few hospital beds left. He looked into my eyes and freeze as he starts to shake uncontrollably, going into shock. I widen my eyes and slam the door shut.

I was frozen on the spot, one hand on the door, as if to keep the noise from re-opening it, and the other hand holding the flowers in front of me. My knees shake from the shock and fear, making the rest of me act in the same manor. I stare at a single grain in the wood, my eyes wide as saucers and blank as a fresh page of paper.

The silence in my ears was deafening me. I gag again, but hold it all down. I'm not sure if Japan is calling me, but to be completely honest I don't care.

No thoughts came to me as I slowly processed what I just saw. As I stood there, I finally realised what this was.

This was the result of a war.

"-Chan...ver.... Ilv.." Something called through the static in my ears. I feel a gentle hand on my shoulder and jump where I stood, shocked. Turning my head around to see over my shoulder, I see Japan standing there, fully healed and concerned.

"Ilvero-Chan, are rou ok?" He asked, keeping his hand resting on my shoulder. I look back to the door once again, then stop putting all my weight onto the arm holding it closed. I show him the cherry blossom branch I brought him, and he smiles.

"Arigatou, but there was no point in bringing rhem." He says, and my eyes sadden. What does he mean there is no point...? Did he mean that he didnt want them?

"I mean the doctor said I can leave just before you came in..." He explains, sensing the mood. " I don't have to stay in hospital anymore..."

I nod my head, happy that was the only reason. I swallow and try to delay him from leaving the room so that my stomach had time to be able to calm itself.

"S-So..... what was b-being in h-hospital like...?" I ask, casually blocking the door. He looks at me skeptically, but shrugs his shoulders letting it go.
