Madeline's POV
I felt a large hand on me, and my body began to rock back and forth. My eyes fluttered open to the sight of Ethan, and a large grin on his face. The sun was out, and I could feel its warmth.

"You want to do something fun?" He asked, excitement in his eyes.

"What's your definition of fun?" I blinked, still slightly tired.

"Swimming." He smiled warmly.

"I don't have a swim suit." I shrugged.

"Already thought of that," he got up and went to the dresser across the room "I brought yours."

"How'd you-"

"Know? This used to be my house, there was always something fun to do." He replied.

"Well then, it's a yes for swimming." I removed the covers.

"I'll meet you in the backyard." He stated, then left.

I got up from bed, grabbed my bathing suit, and got ready.

Ethan's POV
I swam through the water, thoughts filling my mind. Last night I had finally confirmed to myself that I liked Madeline, but I just had to do the hard part; telling her. I felt like swimming would have been fun, and relaxing since I'd put her through so much stress.

I immediately snapped out of my trance at the sound of the back door closing. I looked up, and saw Madeline. God, she was so beautiful. Her swim suit fit her gorgeous body perfectly, and her skin glowed in the morning sun.

"Wow..." I gasped.

"Thanks." She blushed, and got into the water.

We swam around for a while, splashing each other, until I grabbed her hand and pulled her closer to me. I could tell it caught her off guard, since her eyes immediately widened.

"Madeline," I looked down at her, fear taking over my body "I-I love you...a lot"

Silence. There was nothing but pure silence. I could hear, and feel my heart beating out of my chest; it was also slowly breaking.

Madeline's POV
I pondered for a moment. He loved me. I was shocked, excited, and also worried. Would we have a toxic relationship? Would we last long? Was this another joke?

I continued to think, feeling guilty knowing that he was probably getting the wrong idea.

After a while, I finally brought my hand to his cheek and pulled him into a kiss. It was soft at first, but it started to deepen. I could feel his eagerness to go beyond, but we were out in the open, and I didn't want his neighbours staring. He disconnected his lips with mine, and immediately attached them to my neck.

"N-no.." It was hard to deny, but I didn't want things getting out of hand.

"Why not?" He breathed against my neck, sending chills all over my body.

"I think we should talk about it first."

"But...actions speak louder than words." He looked at me with seriousness in his eyes.

"Oh shut up!" I laughed and splashed him with water.

"What?" He laughed as well.

"Come on," I got out of the pool "let's talk about this."

I could hear him groaning in annoyance, and as much as I wanted to jump back into that pool, I knew I had to control myself.

"So," he sat beside me at the edge of the pool "what are we talking about?"

"You like me...and I like you." I smiled hearing those words come out of my mouth.

"You do?" He looked at me with wide eyes.

"Yeah.." I nodded.

"Oh..uhh.."

"You've never been in a relationship before, have you?" I asked smirking at him.

"No.." his cheeks glowed red, causing me to giggle.

"It's fine," I slid my hand into his "we'll work it out."

I placed my head on his shoulder, and we sat there for a while, letting the moment consume us; The clear water, the gleaming sun, the perfect weather, and the perfect pair.

A sudden scream erupted from inside, and we hurriedly ran into the house. A horrifying sight. Mrs. Dolan had a knife to her neck, and there he was, holding her with the most devilish grin ever.

"We meet again, Dolan." Ambrose's rough voice spoke.

"Let her go!" Ethan walked closer to them, but hesitated when Ambrose drew the knife closer to her neck.

"Now, I could kill your mom," he began "or I could take the girl."

"You can't take Madeline!"

"Then I guess I have to slicey slicey." He laughed maniacally.

"No." I stepped forward "take me."

"Madeline, I just got you, I can't lose you!" He turned to face me, hurt written all over his face.

"Well I'm not going to be the reason why your mother dies!" I walked up to Ambrose "let's go."

He smiled in amusement, and roughly grabbed my arms. He began to pull me out, but Ethan started to run towards us. His grip on my arm tightened, causing me to scream out in pain.

"Ethan, just let me go!" I looked up at him, pain filling my arm.

Ethan's POV
I could see pain in her eyes, due the pressure Ambrose was adding to her arm. It bothered me how he was always 2 steps ahead of me, but it bothered me even more that he had to make me choose between my mother and my...girlfriend..?

"Please.." she mouthed, and I slowly put my head down in defeat.

I could hear Ambrose's disgusting laughter as he dragged her out of the house with him.

And there I was, living my biggest fear. The person I didn't want to lose, was gone, and I couldn't save her.

"Ethan.." my mother began.

I turned around, anger, hate, sadness, everything! They all filled my heart, and in that moment, I lost all feeling in my body.

"She's gone.." I wanted to kill myself hearing those words come out of my mouth.

She's gone...
