"Hello my home slice dawg."
You stared in horror at the creature before you, some mutilated fusion of a 1980's PSA commercial with a skeleton clad in bright clothes with a vibrant aura that seemed to surround him. What is a home slice, you wondered, not understanding the complexity of this skeleton. You wondered if this was the person that Ink had been referring to in your dream, the mysterious face with the mysterious name that was supposed to offer you refuge from whatever demented creatures were chasing after you in the dark of night.
"What are you?" you gasped, cocking your head to the side upon seeing the shifting words on the skeleton's glasses, occasionally flickering from YOLO to other catchphrases. Purple flames crackled form underneath the plastic glasses, a wonder how they did not melt from the magic that ravaged beneath. The skeleton seemed to be on edge despite the cool attitude he portrayed, looking over your shoulder in search of whom you assumed to be the two others that had hunted you down in the dead of night.
"The name's Fresh, but you can call me Fresh," the skeleton replied earnestly and then gave up his search and looked down at you through those glasses of his. "I wish we had met in more radical circumstances my broski, but it seems that we're going to have to go incognito if we're going to make our daring escape." It seemed that the skeleton wasn't taking this seriously, the way there was humour laced in his every word, and you would have believed him too be arrogant in the face of danger if it were not for the sight of the purple fire that never ceased from his left eye, hissing and coiling around his skull like a serpent with a mind of its own.
All at once, in the hour had your entire understanding of reality been ripped away. Never before had you seen or met a skeleton, they were the things of legend but said to possess remarkable skills when faced with danger. Is he the only member left of their species? you wondered, looking at Fresh as he cast a glance over his shoulder. I hope they all weren't like this.
The world became a spectacular display of red as a laser beam soared overhead, a great torrent of energy that sailed and coiled on an invisible string before colliding with a building. Screams of the dying echoed inside as the massive skyscraper groaned from the sudden wound in its flank and heaved, metal snapping as the very framework of the building began to unravel as if it had never been there at all, the work of hundreds undone within a single minute. What was the point in accomplishing, fighting for anything if one mere second was all it took to destroy something that could have taken years in the making?
"[Y/N]!" The call of your pursuers was barely audible over the shaking of the earth as the building began to sway, the screams of those trapped inside roarinf in your ears. "We know you're here, and what a coward you are! Running away when you should be fighting? And you are the supposed hope of all the multiverse, what hope are you to anyone if you don't even have the nerve to fight us?"
The caterwaul was deafening now as the building gave its last breath and began its descent to the ground below, taking smaller towers and pedestrians in its topple to the world below. It seemed that things that spiraled into the sky could only share the dome with the clouds for a momentary breath before the earth would once more claim what was its rightfully. You braced for the impact, lifting your elbows against your face in a futile attempt to shield yourself for skin was nothing compared to the might of steel and metal.
"I think it's time for us to skeedaddle," Fresh remarked and you felt his bony hands clamp around your shoulders, holding you tight as you felt your surroundings pulse and contract, the world getting darker as you descended into a realm without time or meaning, becoming for a single single nothing more than an atom, nothing more than a whisper of wind or a leaf on a tree. But then your molecules slowly rearranged themselves miles away, miles away at a cliff that overlooked the smoking city below.
