Taste of God

-This sonnet is inspired by Dante's The Divine Comedy: Paradiso, Canto X lines 1 through 6-

When crisp leaves take their path across the sky
And the great star sneaks its way through the clouds
Anxious thoughts oh so quickly pass me by
And a peaceful hymn from heaven resounds.

When those that dress more radiant than brides
Creep up from the ground and color the earth,
Dark wanderings within me run to hide
For fear of the great presence which gave birth

When reflections of His joyful laughter
Ring melodious from the moth-eaten,
I see the emotion of the Crafter,
His glory astounding and unbeaten

Through creation the Creator is met;
This taste of God is not finished, not yet.
