Prom; in the movies Prom is everything. You get to buy the fanciest dress, wear the fanciest shoes, nails, makeup, hairstyle, and handbag. You get to go with a date and slow dance and have your first kiss. Right?
WRONG!!!
Prom is just a glorified school dance. My first prom certainly wasn't anything like that. In fact, it wasn't even my prom. Since I've been homeschooled I have ALWAYS sworn off homeschool proms, those are just weird, uncomfortable and awkward.
No no, my first prom was with my best friend at that time, Halleigh, and my sister Hope. So I didn't know any of Halleigh's friends from her school, but I'd get to meet them all at this one dance.
At the time I didn't have a job and I was broke. B.R.O.K.E broke! I didn't have money for a dress.
What does a broke girl do to get a pretty dress for prom? Well I would have done ANYTHING, no lie! But I did the only thing I felt like doing;
Thrift shopping!!
I was hoping to find something amazing but since I waited until the day before the dance, the dress in the picture above was the best I could find (and that's only the top half!).
Anyways, my brothers fiancé at the time Autumn (they're married now) did my makeup and my sister Hope's makeup as well. Hence the reason I look like a model above.
Anyways, we're getting ready and Halleigh starts to tell me about this guy who goes to her school. She had told me about him all the way back in December but I had forgotten about him. Something y'all should know about me is I am a singer and I love singing. Any guy who can sing (zing!) instantly I'm attracted. Anyways this guy she was telling me about, whose name is Don, happened to be a fantastic singer! So I could not wait to meet him!
On the day of the prom we met up at a lake to take pictures together. The prom was being held at Magianos so dinner was provided.
We get to the dance all dressed up and have to walk through a restaurant where people are dressed normally to get to the stairs leading up to the dance hall where the prom was being held.
I had never seen a picture of Don before so I didn't know what he looked back or what to expect. Anyways, we get to the doorway for the dance and there's a girl standing there named Katie and she's a friend of Halleigh's. We greet each other and I kid you not, .5 seconds later, this tall African American guy walks over. Halleigh introduces us and low and behold it's Don! He is cute!
Just one problem; he is Katie's date.
And Katie is adorable. She's short, thin, pale skinned, brown eyed, and brown haired girl. She seemed quiet but very feminine and sweet looking.
I started to feel discouraged. Not gonna lie I had hoped he'd be single but now I was convinced that he and Katie were dating. So I kinda gave up.
I did try to talk to him when we were serving food but he was so focused on the food that he didn't even really pay attention to me.
Anyways the night progressed slowly. We all danced together and laughed and took pictures. It was a good night.
By the end of it, one of Halleigh's guy friends, Titus, had asked for my number. I didn't want to give it to him so I lied and said that my dad wouldn't allow me to text boys.
As the night was coming to an end, Don caught me at the very end of the dance and re-introduced himself to me. We shook hands.
After like ten seconds I realized...he was still holding my hand. Which made me feel nervous. I could feel myself starting to like him. Then I glance behind him and there I see his date KATIE standing by the door!!
I quickly let go of his hand and said goodbye, disappointed he didn't ask for my number or ask to dance with me. But what did I expect a taken guy to do?
Anyways I spent the night at Halleigh's and woke up the next day to head home.
A couple days later I'm talking with Halleigh only to find out... DON WAS ASKING ABOUT ME!!!
He called me "The Mystery Girl in Red" cause he couldn't remember my name! It felt like a real Hollywood romance story beginning! I told her that if he asked about my number to give it to him.
However, after days without any kind of text from him, I decided to take matters into my own hands and I messaged him on SnapChat introducing myself as "The Mystery Girl in Red".
Long story short, it turned out that Don wasn't dating Katie and that he and I both liked each other! We ended up dating for a year before I broke up with him because the Holy Spirit told me to (idk what you believe in but I'm a Christian and I do believe that the Holy Spirit does speak to people and to me).
But! He's very happy! It's been about a year now since I broke up with him and he is happily into six months of dating another girl who is just so pretty and so kind. I'm happy for him!
Anyways! The next chapter will be called "I like You Too" it's another story from my middle school drama days. Get ready for the Cringe! >~<
All my love!
