"I love you Doctor Uncle!", said the chirpy little girl with a shaved head.
"Love you too muffin", said the doctor smiling.
"Don't call me that, I'm not a child!", she snapped.
"OK, love you too my sweet girl... is it all right now?", doctor 'uncle' said, instructing the nurse about the change in her medicine course.
"You're the best!! Four thumbs up!!", she exclaimed, cheerfully.
"I know... I've got to go now.. See you later, my Princess!", saying this he went away for his rounds.
This became their regular course of conversation which she called 'our moment'.
This continued for a few more months until the doctor got married at an age of 32.
1st day in hospital after marriage:
Everyone congratulated him wholeheartedly except the 8 year old.
Her: "Don't expect a congratulation from me. I'll never give you my good wishes. You broke my heart." (making a crying face)
Doctor: "Why won't you? You're my Princess after all.."
Her: "You're bad.."
Doctor: (Chuckling) "Don't worry Princess, I still love you. Uncle got married to not get a scolding from his mother. Uncle's Mom is very scary, you know?"
Her: (With twinkling eyes) "Really? Don't worry, I won't tell your Mom. It's a top secret between us!"
Their delightful relationship continued for a year more and the doctor was finally able to win against her cancer. With this they parted their ways. The doctor stayed behind at the hospital and she went back to her orphanage.
16 years later...
"Please take care of your respective interns. Groom them well so that we can accept them care-freely at the end of their internship", said the Director of the hospital addressing to the senior doctors.
(In his empty consulting room, talking on his phone) "Along with this busy schedule, now I have to take care of an intern too... Seems like I won't be able to spend much time with you (wife) and Ayesha (daughter) again. And if the intern turned out like last year's...", 47 years old Dr. Ajay shuddered, reminiscing the last year's intern, Vipin, who had given him a really hard time.
"It'll be alright this year..", his wife replied, "Have belief in a woman's intuition." The words somehow gave him a bit of solace.
He checked the profile of his intern. 'Joyi Dutta' -it said. "Sounds familiar..", he thought. Dr. Ajay isn't good at remembering names. But the name stuck into his mind for a long time that day without being realized, whom it belonged to.
The next day Joyi walked in with the biggest smile she ever possessed and greeted her senior - "Hello Doctor Uncle, do you recognize me?"
Dr. Ajay nodded in negative. There are several children who call him 'Uncle' every other day.
"Have I treated you before? I'm sorry I don't remember..", he said, with a feeling of guilt.
"I always considered you as my mentor, my father, and my man.. but you don't even remember me?", a gloom spread over face.
The words - 'my father' and 'my man' made him a bit uncomfortable.
"You know... I became 47 this year... so I'm already married...", he muttered.
"I know, but you told me that I'm your Princess and that you got married to not get a scolding from his mother as your Mom is very scary. I kept your secret safe...", she said with a smile.
The Doctor broke into silent tears as he realized that the cute little girl suffering from cancer had now grown into a beautiful lady who aimed to fight against others' cancer.
She was the first patient he had ever got so attached to. He embraced her proudly, and said - "I have 2 daughters from now on... I adopt you.."
Thus their love story continued long after.. though it got changed from 'Doctor Uncle and patient' to 'father and daughter'.
This is my first work on Wattpad. I'm kinda nervous about it's outcome. Please support me and give me your feedback. Love you all readers :)
