Cause and Effect || Jonah Marais

"We have to go, now." I yelled to Kennedy as I walked out the door to our apartment complex.

"I'm coming!" She yelled back. I turned around to see her hauling 2 giant suitcases down the carpeted stairs.

   "How much did you bring?!" I asked. She laughed and said, "Enough to last me a year."

   My eyes grew wide and I mouthed the words "a year" in astonishment. We hustled into the taxi and I told him where we were going.

   "Where are you headed from the airport?" He asked.

   "LA," I explained. "We are staying there for a few weeks."

   Okay, so you are probably wondering why Kennedy and I are going to LA. We are going to stay with our best friend Zach Herron.

   I moved to Houston when I was 4, and ever since we met in preschool, Zach and I have been inseparable. We had sleepovers at each other's houses, told each other secrets, and were basically glued to each other.

   In 9th grade, Kennedy moved to our school and she joined our group. The 3 of us are best friends, but Zach and I will always be like siblings.

   In 10th grade, Zach got an amazing opportunity to join a boy band. Zach has always been in love with singing, so he took the offer and moved to LA. His band, Why Don't We, became very famous and is really popular now. Girls all over the world love him.

   Now I'm in 11th grade, but Kennedy and I are taking classes online. I'm 17 and so is Kennedy, and we live in an apartment together. We got a call from Zach last week saying that we should come up to LA and stay with them for a few weeks. We made arrangements, and now we are going to stay with Why Don't We in LA!

   Once we got to the airport and got our bags checked, we got onto the plane and took our seats. Kennedy likes to talk to the people across the aisle from us on planes (don't ask me why) so I took the window seat. I popped some earbuds in and started opened my music app.

   I miss Zach so much, I thought. I was so excited to see him. I opened my Why Don't We playlist, pressed play, and turned up the volume. I focused on Zach's voice, knowing I'd see him soon.

   Just so we're clear, I do not and never have had feelings for Zach. Like I said before, we are like brother and sister.

   When the plane landed, we got off and walked to find Zach, who was supposed to be waiting for us. I looked around the airport, scanning for any familiar faces.

   "I don't see them," I said to Kennedy. She shook her head in response.

   "Emma! Kennedy!" A voice shouted. I immediately recognized it as Zach's and whipped around towards the right of me. I saw Zach over by a Chinese restaurant and ran towards him.

   When I reached him, we collided and hugged each other tightly. Emotions ran through me at lightning speed.

   "I missed you so much." I whispered into his shoulder as we hugged.

   "I missed you too." He whispered back. After our hug broke, he hugged Kennedy and turned around so our focus was now on a group of 4 other guys.

"I'd like you to meet Why Don't We!"
