Just Another Day

"No no no no NO!" Han Solo blurted out to his furry friend.

As Chewbacca continued hammering away at the seemingly always-breaking machinery of the Millennium Falcon, the last thing he wanted to hear was yet more criticism from his pet. Yes, Han was the 'pet' in this relationship, not him. Chewie was over two-hundred years old, he wasn't going to be told what to do by a human barely in his thirties!

"How many times have I told you?!" Han exclaimed. "This one goes there, THAT one goes there!" he said while pointing at various pieces of circuitry. Chewie couldn't bring himself to tell him that he was completely wrong, and that this one didn't go there, but there instead; he wasn't quite ready to crush his companion's confidence just yet.

Han just buried his head on the nearest wall he could find. This goddamn sensor array had been playing up ever since a certain ridiculous man in a cape decided to knock the last one clean off during his Death Star stunt. "I know what she means to you," he said, "not a scratch" he said. That'd teach Han to trust a smuggler, oh wait...

He then heard a cheerful roar from his friendly fuzzball. He rushed over to the control circuit where Chewie was working, and the Wookiee informed him that he'd found the problem and it would be fixed shortly. Han could have fainted from exasperation. Before he could however, he felt a hand tap his shoulder. He turned around, only to be greeted by his wife. Princess Leia wasted no time.

"Han, with me, now," she instructed, and beckoned him to follow her.

As he began walking with her, he heard a roar from behind him.

"You keep working on the Falcon Chewie, I've got a feeling we're gonna need it," he responded, and Chewbacca returned to his work.

"So gorgeous, what trouble have you brought me this time?" Han asked flirtatiously.

Leia would normally be flattered by such a remark, but today she was in no mood.

The couple walked down the long corridors of the old Rebel base until they reached the briefing room, where they were met with some of the highest-ranking officials in the Republic, including the lady in charge of it all, Mon Mothma.

"Princess Organa, Captain Solo. I'm pleased you could join us," she greeted.

Leia approached her superior and shook her hand firmly. Han then followed suit.

"What's the situation, ma'am?" he asked.

At this question, a grave expression made its way onto Mothma's face. This was bad, whatever it was.

"Our interplanetary sensor relays have detected something rather worrying. My technicians believe it to merely be a glitch in the system, and for our sake I hope they're right, but I'd rather be certain." she explained solemnly. "It appears to be a signal from a ship in orbit above Chandrila..." she paused, seemingly unable to finish the sentence.

"What kind of ship?" Leia persisted.

Mothma took a deep breath.

"An Imperial ship," she said at last.

The room was suddenly filled with gasps of fear, as every head turned in astonishment. Han and Leia were no exception.

"That's impossible!" Leia exclaimed. "The Empire fell at Jakku!"

"So we have been lead to believe," Mothma replied. "I hope you are correct, Princess Organa. If the Empire has survived, in any way, they could destroy everything we have worked so hard to build. That is why I am dispatching you two, along with the nearest available Republic legion to investigate. There is a capital ship waiting for you on the far side of the planet, you will rendezvous there and check the entire system. If there is any trace of an Imperial remnant, it must be eliminated at once," she stated firmly.

"Understood ma'am," Han responded with his prize-winning grin.

"May the Force be with you," their leader concluded.

The two heroes rushed back to the hangar, where they found Chewbacca still with the Falcon.

"Get her ready Chewie!" Han instructed coolly. "We've got a new mission,"

Just another day in the life of a Rebel.
