There was a chill in the air. At the edge of the galaxy, something was brewing. Only those who were wise enough could feel it, though even they could not identify it.
One such man, a man with a deep connection to the living Force, had journeyed to a quiet, backwater world, as a means of obtaining peace of mind. He was no stranger to new planets, in fact he took great pleasure in his exploration of the galaxy he called home. He loved seeing the natural balance of the Force at work right in front of his eyes, and becoming more in tune with it as a result.
He walked through a lush, green forest. The fresh air, the plants, the wildlife, it all fed and flowed from the Force, made it grow, made it stronger.
He walked further, until he came to a fallen tree. No doubt, this was once a proud oak, toppled by a great storm. And yet, this was the nature of the Force. He sat on a short stump, where the tree had once stood tall, closed his eyes, and reached out.
Throughout his travels, he had seen the Force take many forms. Some good, some evil. From the desert planes of Tatooine to the icy mountains of Hoth, he had experienced the galaxy for what it really was, and he had learned the real truth of the Force. It wasn't some mystical power that only Jedi were entitled to, as the Jedi of old would have led you to believe, it was a balance. Life, death and decay, that fed new life, warmth, cold, peace, violence, light, darkness, and between it all, the Force, a balance that bound the universe together.
And yet, as he reached further, he sensed an imbalance. Somewhere, far away from here, there was conflict, there was war. He concentrated, and he could see ships, lasers flying, the dark emptiness of space filled with fire, blood and death. His instinct was to leap up, spring into action, but the Jedi within him stayed his hand. It was not his place to interfere. War would happen, the galaxy was a big place, and no single man could right every wrong in the galaxy. The Jedi were keepers of the peace, not soldiers.
But then, as he looked further into this abyss, he sensed something more, something worse. There was a great darkness approaching, a darkness that would bring an end to the peace he had worked so hard to achieve. He had to act, but what could he do? This battle could be anywhere. He looked deeper, searching for anything, anything that would point him in the right direction, and then, he found it. Among all the destruction, all the violence, all the soldiers risking their lives, he could sense... Han, Chewie, Leia! He now knew what he had to do. No matter how far away they were, through the Force, he could always find them. They were his friends, his family, and now they were in danger.
The time for contemplation had passed, now it was time for action. It was time to be what his friends knew him to be, what the galaxy knew him to be; the legendary Jedi Knight, riding in to save the day.
It was time to be a hero. It was time to be Luke Skywalker.
