I was slightly taken aback at the sight of him. He had grown a lot since I last saw him (obviously). He had a charming smirk to match those striking eyes. He looked at me expectantly. Shit, what do I do?

I decide to get up and do a slight curtsy.

"Sire, I am very sorry. I should have been watching where I was going."

"That'll be your highness, maid." Fuck. Fuck fuck fuck. I look up at him and smile nervously while my brain connected the dots. That would've been Thor's brother with him! Of course. Loki, the god of mischief. I had never seen him before properly, yet here I am in front of him now, a nervous and bumbling wreck.

"My deepest apologies your highness." I curtsied again, but deeper and more sincere. He smirked.

"So you should be." I bowed my head.

"I must depart, I have an important meeting to attend to with his highness Thor Odins-"

"My brother. The soon-to-be king." He scoffed a little. "Very well maid." He clicked his fingers and vanished into thin air. Oh my god.

For the rest of the day I couldn't get my mind off the mischievous god. He looked to be a little older than me, with his sunken eyes yet youthful glow. He was attractive to say the very least. I met his older brother Thor, with his charm and wit. He wasn't as scary as his brother. He cracked jokes and flirted with us all. I liked him yet I couldn't shake off that feeling Loki gave me. It's probably nothing, right?

Once I was finished with Thor,  I headed back to the maid quarters with Dahlia, who was still rambling about Thor's attractiveness. I brought up bumping into Loki.

"Oh, him?" Dahlia said with a hint of disgust in her voice. "I met him a few days ago. He hardly said a word and just looked down on us all. Nothing like his big brother..." That's strange. He didn't seem that bad when I met him. Just a bit of a cheeky asshole. To be fair it was a brief meeting.

Ever since I met Loki for the first time, I keep seeing him around the palace. Just out of the corner of my eye. Talking to the warriors three, getting teased by his brother, sitting in the crook of a window in the grand library with a book in arm. Being allowed near the gods was like stepping into another realm. The maids who have worked here for years don't seem to even notice the gods because they are so used to them. I feel like a little girl who got the chance to become a princess. Kinda.

Hugo has also been appointed to a higher position within the castle. After spending years in the kitchen he developed a skill for cooking. Now, he cooks the gods their meals, 3-4 times a day. He loves doing it but I can already tell it is exhausting for him. I saw him this morning, with bags under his eyes and a younger kitchen boy trailing behind him. He manages a half smile and rushes off. The coronation is tomorrow and he is preparing food for the thousands.

Although we could probably only fit a couple thousand in the grand hall, there are countless street parties and a massive festival going on outside. It is important that we make a great impression on not just the guests in the palace, but guests in the streets too. Everyone is running around stressed. I don't like stress, but I can't really do much about it.

I have been given the task of carrying around a basket full of baked bread for the other maids and servants. Of course, gods and warriors may have some too. After an hour of wandering around the castle offering bread to people, my feet start to ache. I decide to take a quick seat on a window ledge out near the North East balcony and rub my feet. The balcony is almost deserted as not much people venture out this far when all of the main events is happening in the centre of the palace down below. That is until I hear a familiar voice.

"Looks like you're hard at work, maid."

How come he always finds me at my worst?

"Sorry your highness, I will get back to work." I slip my shoe back on and grab my basket, standing up. Loki eyes it curiously.

"Why have you got a basket full of bread?"

"I am going around offering it to the maids and servants hard at work. Would you like some your highness?" He scoffs at me, taking a small loaf and tossing up and down it in his hand.

"This is burnt." He smirks, crushing it in his hand. I watch as the crumbs fall to the ground and disintegrate with a green spark. I sigh, offering the basket out once again. He casts it a somewhat dirty look.

"Why would I take another? That'll probably be burnt as well." He spat. Now I get what Daliah meant. Looked down at us all...

"Sorry your highness. I will get back to work." Although my back was now turned I could feel his smirk.

"What is your name, maid?"

"(y/n). My name is (y/n) your highness." I curtsy and walk away. Asshole.

The next morning

I am woken up by the lovely sound of pots and pans clanging together. I groan.

"C'MON LADIES, UP AND AT EM. WE HAVEN'T GOT VERY LONG BEFORE GUESTS BEGIN TO ARRIVE SO GET YOURSELVES CLEAN AND PRESENTABLE." It was our head maid.

To my surprise she was standing with our queen, Frigga. I quickly got up and slipped into our carefully woven celebration maid robes. Each and every single gown was a cream colour, woven with golden silk. Our trains were short for practicality. There was a lace pattern woven into the breast of the gown. I began to pleat my hair and folded it behind my head, sealing it all in with a golden clip my mother gave me. The head maid called out the names to assigned gods. Each god were to recieve 3 maids each. Me, a younger maid called Anette and Dahlia's good friend Laila were assigned to Thor himself! Dahlia, struck with jealously over my position, was assigned to Lady Sif.

I didn't care. I was ecstatic to prepare the future king himself for his coronation! We were escorted by guards to Thor's sleeping chambers. He was already awake and had just emerged from his bathroom, soaked with water. Anette and Laila rushed over to prepare his armour and I went into the bathroom. The large bowl of hot water was rested on a golden column. I picked it up and headed back down to clean the bowl so I could return it to the bathroom. I couldn't help but admire the intricate patterns on the bowl, detailing a scene of an orchard with warriors and horses resting under the shade of the grand apple trees.

We helped tie up Thor's garments and then his armour. I made sure his hair was perfect.

"There you go, your highness." I smiled. Thor grinned back at me.

"Alas, young maiden. I look beautiful, with my golden hair. Just as beautiful as the maiden whomst created this look." My cheeks turned a bright red, and began to heat up. Flustered, I smiled nervously and stepped back.

"Thank you, your highness." Thor grinned at me, when Laila piped up.

"Your highness, your coronation is waiting for you." Thor grinned ecstatically, like a child.

"Aha! At last my time has come. Thank you fair maidens, I do so hope you will be here when I return to my chambers tonight." He thundered out of the room.

I gave Anette a look. She looked mortified. Poor Anette. We quickly tidied up the rooms massive floor and hurried down to the grand hall.
