Just before we begin I would like to say thank you for reading this far. I had a request for an update and honestly, if you hadn't made a request i wouldn't have continued. Im sorry my updates are incredibly slow, but Im having a writes block, but i promise to try to work faster
Melissa had spent the past week with her training and getting closer to Saito. She still slept in his room, but now in a bed with him in it. Serizawa had become more careful which only made him more dangerous. The nights with Saito weren't anything romantic they simply slept and enjoyed each others company. Saito hadn't made a move on her after that one kiss. Melissa didn't mind taking things slowly, but she began feeling like maybe the kiss ad been a mistake that Saito had made in the spur of the moment. She still enjoyed the time they spent together chatting about everyday things. Neighter even mentioning about Melissa's brother and what to do about it. She was her own woman and had no intention of leaving, but some uncertainty made her doubt herself. She really missed her siblings all of them and even her parents, but she had nobody to talk about it without making things sound like she wanted to leave.
Saito had been a perfect gentleman. He wanted her more than he thought he would ever want anyone, but he couldn't let his feelings get in the way of his responsibilities in the Roshigumi and taking a step closer to her would have him wavering from his comrades and the upcoming battles he had sworn to take part in, so he didn't try to get any closer to her. The nights with her were torture, but he was afraid for her safety with Serizawa in the compound. He also knew that if they did something now it would make her decisions about leaving or staying more difficult and he didn't want to do that to her. If Melissa wanted to leave he would let her.
He noticed Serizawa's goons trying to get Melissa separated from the others every once in a while, but Saito wasn't an idiot he always found a way to make sure Melissa didn't walk alone to the town or bathe without someone trustworthy hanging in the background. The other captains had more or less figured out that something was going on between the two, but they refrained from talking about it with Saito.
Something else weighted on his mind. What future could Melissa have here? She had talked about working on her own and things like that, but when she came here her chances were extremely limited and the only one willing to tutor her wasn't really well suited for the task. Saito couldn't even marry her if it came to that. He was a sworn soldier and of Samurai descendant which meant it would be forbidden from marrying someone outside Samurai lineage and as strong and smart as she was, Melissa was an outsider in a hostile land.
Saito didn't have any answers and he feared he already knew what had to be done. He would have to take distance from her and wait for her to leave, back home where it will be safer for her.A week came to an end and another letter had arrived at the manor. This time Hijikata knew to give it to Melissa without asking questions. Melissa already knew Hijikata was certain that she would be leaving. It was the only thing making sense to him and a few others.
Melissa was torn apart between decisions. To abandon her family that tried to reach out to her or to continue with the uncertainty of maybe's... maybe starting a relationship... maybe making something of herself... maybe maybe. It was all weighting down on her.
Melissa went to the field outside the compound alone to read the letter. It smelt familiar and she smiled slightly. She wished she had somebody to confide in to, but it had to be decision.
She opened the letter, her brothers penmanship was dancing on the page, but with it there was a drawing of a man. He looked slightly older than her, but not at all bad looking. Melissa knew her brother had drawn this, but why would he send it to her, and who was it.
She read the letter savoring every word. Her brother was already in Japan. He had some business to take care of, but he would arrive at the manor in the evening. Melissa felt something churn in her stomach. She hadn't been at the manor after the attack and there was a reason for it.
She was scared of the place even though she ever admitted it when people talked about the place. Now she would have to go there to wait her brother to arrive.
Jon was certain his sister wouldn't make things easy for him, but he missed her and that's all that mattered at the moment.
But he also knew that it would take a LOT of convincing for her to come home. She was a smart woman and even if he had always seen her as his little sister, who always got on their parents nerves and disobeyed in every turn, he knew fully well that she did not want to get married or live only as someone's wife. He only hoped she would come to her senses and go home.
Jon was acquainted with Melissa's husband to be and he knew the man would treat her with respect- and if he wouldn't, Jon would make sure he would disappear. Not killing him - of course-, but simply making the man work overseas forever. Jon had that much power now, being the new owner of the largest shipping companies in the scandinavia.
Just like his sister he was to be married, but as a man he had more options and that's why he felt bad for his Melissa.Jon truly missed her and wondered how much she had changed since they met. Will she still smile like she used to, will she be confident and succesful with her career?
He kept reminising until he heard something from one of the crew men from his ship.
"The embassy..."
"Yes, what about the embassy, speak up man."
"Sir the embassy was demolished, and everyone was slaughtered by rebels."
