"After all, everybody's doing their time..." Comes through the headphones as Ashlyn becomes more aware of her surroundings. She slept the whole ride from Oregon. Looking out the window of the car she sees rows of nice looking houses, looking all the same. The car shifts as they pull into a driveway.
"Ashlyn.. Oh you're awake." Ashlyn's mom says as she turns around in her seat to look at her.
Ashlyn watches her parents get out of the car and start taking things out of the trunk. She stretches her arms and opens her door. The chilly air filled the car and she immediately regretted opening the door.
"Grab your suitcase and go upstairs and find your room. Then come back down here and help get the rest of your boxes." Her dad instructed.
"Aye sir." Ashlyn said sarcastically and saluted him. Her dad just rolled his eyes.
Her mom handed Ashlyn her suitcase and then headed off into the house. Ashlyn followed and once inside started the trek up the stairs. Once she got to the top she looked around and saw a master bedroom right at the top of the stairs, a guest room next to it, a bathroom, then at the end of the hallway was a room. Ashlyn walked up to the door and pushed it open. The room wasn't too big, but wasn't too small. The walls were a cream color that she would be definitely changing eventually. Then saw a queen size bed. She scanned a little more and noticed that she had her own bathroom. She silently cheered and heaved the suitcase up onto the bed, then walked downstairs to help with her boxes.
After about two hours they were done unloading boxes from the car and U-Haul and was finished unpacking most of the living room. Ashlyn was exhausted and just wanted to go to bed. She looked at her phone and it was only 4pm.
"Great teamwork!" Her mom said enthusiastically while she fist bumped the air. Her dad just smiled and sat down on the couch.
"So I'm going to start dinner you two... is there anything that you would prefer to have?" Her mom asked as she walked into the kitchen.
"Chinese food..." Ashlyn said under her breath. She had been craving Panda Express ever since they past one earlier that day.
"I'll just make chicken sandwiches is that alright?" She asked as she poked her head around the corner.
"Fine with me." Her dad said.
"Yeah that's good." Ashlyn said with a sigh.
Her dad turned on the TV and started watching the history channel.
"I'm gonna go start slowly unpacking my room." Ashlyn told her dad as she stood up. Her dad just nodded.
Ashlyn walked upstairs and pushed her bedroom door open and just stood there taking the room in. She then walked over and opened her suitcase and started putting her clothes away and hanging them up in her big closet. After she finished that task she walked up to the first box and opened it. It had pictures in it. Of her and her parents, friends, and adventures that she took. She slumped down to the floor and wiped away the tears that were cascading down her cheeks.
Ashlyn missed her friends in Oregon. Her family had stayed in that state the longest. That's where she made the most friends, she thought that they wouldn't have to move again. Oh boy, was she wrong. She unpacked all of them and went to find a hammer and some nails to hang up the peg board. At the bottom of the box were posters of her favorite bands. After about an hour she had all of her pictures up and the room started to look more like a room. The next box had her purple comforter and sheets in it. Once she had her bed made she heard her moms voice from behind her.
"Dinners ready... and your room is starting to look nice." Her mom said with a smile. Ashlyn was really close with her mom. Her dad, not so much. She kind of resented him for making them move all the time.
"Okay." Ashlyn replied and dusted her sweatpants off.
"I have a feeling that this is the last stop for a while." Her mom said as she hugged Ashlyn. "Honestly. I overheard your dad talking to his work people and he was saying something about staying put for a while."
Ashlyn let go of her mom and looked at her mom with a look of sadness. "I really hope so. I'm so tired of moving."
"I am too sweetie." Her mom said as she hugged Ashlyn again. "Now, lets go eat!" Then with that, they were headed downstairs to the dining room.
Dinner was good, even though it wasn't the Chinese food that Ashlyn wanted.
"So Ashlyn, you start school tomorrow. You excited?" Her dad asked her with a smile.
"I guess. No actually, not really." Ashlyn said as she looked down at her plate.
"Why not? You'll make new friends and it will be great." He told her.
"Well I wouldn't have to make new friends I could be with my old friends back in Oregon but we just HAD to move." Ashlyn said with slight anger.
"Now now. You will love Beacon Hills High! I have heard it is a great school." Her mom said with a peppy voice.
"Yeah. Okay." Ashlyn said while she slumped back in her chair and crossed her arms over her chest.
"Just be positive. I bet you that you'll meet someone on your first day." Her dad told her while giving her a sympathetic look. "You have to do all of the laundry for a week if you meet at least one person that you can be friends with tomorrow."
"And what if I don't?" Ashlyn cocked her eye brow at her dad.
"I will do the laundry for a week. Instead of us doing our own."
"Deal." Ashlyn said with a smirk as she reached out and shook her dads hand.
"Oh goodness." Her mom said while shaking her head and smiling.
Dinner finished and Ashlyn helped her mom with the dishes while her dad went to watch TV again. When they were done it was about 8pm.
"Well it looks like I should be getting to bed." Ashlyn said with a sigh.
Her mom brought her into a hug and said goodnight. Ashlyn then went to her father and hugged him goodnight as well. Then started walking upstairs towards her room. She put on shorts and a Fall Out Boy shirt and walked into her bathroom to brush her teeth. After that Ashlyn pulled her sheets down and got into her surprisingly soft bed. Set her alarm for 6am and turned over and started drifting off to sleep. Dreading having to go to school tomorrow.
First chapter! Pretty short but I hope you liked it! xoxo
