*Chapter Nine*
I was utterly dumbfounded. I had no words to tell Lily that everything was going to be okay when clearly it was never going to be - at least for a while anyway. I took Lily into the pack house and to my room. Guiding her to my bed, my mind was reeling with what to do. I got a sudden idea and walked over to Lily. I sniffed her. Yea I sniffed my best friend, but for good reason.
Good, they were still there. The people who robbed her had left their scents and even the smell of gunpowder against Lily’s hair and scalp. I let out a low growl and could feel a slight pull for the change. You don’t mess with a werewolf’s best friends – or any people they like.
I could do a number of things. I could kill them, but that’s a little unnecessary. I could beat them up and leave them at a police station, but then I’m sure they’ll come looking for me. Huh? What to do? Ah! I know! I decided to stick with this plan. I stopped pacing around the room – something I usually do when I’m thinking hard. Walking over to Lily, I crouched down in front of her.
“Lily, look at me.” She lifts her head with tear filled eyes.
“Yes?”
“I have an idea and I want to know if you’re willing to help with it. It’s something to make us both feel better.”
“What is it?” I explain my plans to her.
“How about it, do you want to come along and help?” She looks away while thinking on it.
“I do think that will make me feel better a little.”
“Don’t worry, when we come back we’ll eat tons of ice cream and watch movies where the heroine is a female who kicks evil men’s asses.”
“Yea, let’s do that, but not so much ice cream for me; I don’t have a metabolism as fast as yours.”
“Yes, aren’t I so lucky? Anyway, let’s go I don’t want to lose their scents.”
“I’ll take you to where I got robbed – if I can remember it.”
Lily took me through the forest and I had to wonder why the hell we were going this way when I know she doesn’t take this route home. I didn’t say anything though, there had to be a reason why we came through the forest. Soon we came onto a side walk. This is the place she usually walks.
“I didn’t want to walk the normal way. I was scared that I’d get mugged again.”
“No problem, you have me around.”
I sniffed the air around me, but it didn’t smell like the people I smelled on Lily. Lily began walking again towards the direction of the school. We soon stopped by an alley way just before crossing the street to the school.
