The lights came back on shortly after. Crystal opened her eyes to to bright silverish green ones. "Sorry. It may seem really stupid but I hate the dark." Crystal looked at her hand which he was holding. She didnt want any boy touching her. Garret snatched his hand away and sat back down. Crystal tried to get through the rest of class.
Finally the bell rang. She grabbed her stuff and quickly walked out of class. Garret caught up with her. "So where do you live?" He asked. "Oh well currently we are staying at a hotel." Crystal murmered a little embarrassed. Garret laughed. "Its cool. I lived in a foster home for awhile." Crystal tilted her head. "Oh, so, you're-" "Adopted? Yeah." Garret said. Crystal wanted to hug him but at the same point the idea made her shiver. They walked to six period together. Crystal froze in the entrance. There, sitting in the center of the class, was Jacob, and an empty seat. Right next to him.
Jacob smiled wildly and pointed to the desk next to him. Not wanting to anger him she sat down. Garret looked at her strangely and sat up front. Jacob leaned over and slid a piece of paper across her desk. She shakily flipped it over. "I'll see you after school." She took out her notebook and scribbled down two new quotes she thought of.
" You tell me to live my life but I just dont have one."
"You tell me to follow my dreams but what if I only have nightmares."
Crystal shook as she wrote. She could feel Jacobs eyes burn through her. Garret kept looking back at her oddly. The class went by quickly. She could tell both Garret and Jacob wanted to talk to her but she quickly ran out of class.Crystal saw Alec in the hallway and she ran to catch up with him. She stayed silent almost the whole way to the hotel except for a few casual questions about what happened at school.
When they got to the hotel she dumped all of her things on a chair and dashed back down stairs wanting to get outside. Alec once again seemed bewildered by his sisters strange behavior. Crystal ran past the hotel and up to a bridge. It was long and high up. High enough to where if she jumped she would probably die or get seriously injured. Crystal sat on the edge watching her tears fall from her face into the murky waters far below. Slowly she let go finger by finger of the bridge.
Crystal was about to push herself off, wanting to get away from this awful world. It seemed like no one actually knew her. No one took the time to. No one had time for her. No matter how many people "Cared" about her she always felt alone. Drowning in her own thoughts. What had happened at school that day.. Just sealed it. She no longer wanted a part in this world. Almost no cars drove over the bridge because it was getting kind of late.
Crystal was about to jump when a voice stopped her. "I told you that you were mine. I never gave you permission to do this! I told you to wait for me after school didnt I? Didnt I?" Suddenly Jacob had ripped her off the edge of the bridge and was holding his fist above her head. Crystal cried out praying for someone to come. But Some things never changed.
Jacob threw her at the ground. Crystal stumbled and got up. Jacob aimed for her face with a raised fist but Crystal ducked out of the way. She kicked and landed a blow on his side. "Can someone please see this?" She thought. This only made Jacob angrier and he punched her in the shoulder rendering that arm useless. Jacob threw his fist at her cheek causing her ears to ring. Jacob picked her up by her shirt. "You will listen." Crystal wept and Jacob ran away. Dragging herself into a sitting postion she hugged her knees and rocked back and forth. "Why would he do this? He doesnt even know me.." Crystal asked herself repeatedly. Her foot stung from when she had kicked him. She managed to stand up and walk back to the hotel.
Crystal told Alec she had tripped over a rock and fallen on her shoulder. As for her face she had landed on thorns. Once Alec had calmed her down, Crystal laid down and fell asleep. She woke up at some point to Alec kicking and thrashing. She shook him awake. "Alec are you o-okay?" He stared at her with wide eyes and nodded. He turned over and fell back asleep. Crystal tried to fall asleep but her mind plagued her with awful dreams but one stuck out in particular...
Crystal sat in a field for once being happy. Someone was holding her hand and talking in a soft and sweet way. But she couldnt make out who it was and his words blurred together until his voice was a quiet murmur. She had a book in her hand but for some reason she sat up and took her book away from her face. At this moment a grotesque creature skittered up to them. It had four bones jutting from its back that it skittered on making it inhumanly fast. Shards of skull stuck out of the top of its head. Its face was one gaping void filled with rows upon rows of sharp jagged teeth its head twisted in a 360 angle shredding all the plants and animals around it. It had two long strings of muscle that wipped from side to side. This this crawled on its back moving with the four jutting bones. The person next to her jumped in front of her. He had black hair and looked oddly familiar. This creature shredded his legs and used its muscley wips to lash out at him. The bones grew longer making the creature taller. It shredded the boys face an stabbed at his gut with the shards on top of it head. Finally once the poor boy was nothing but a pulp the creature stabbed at Crystals shoulder using its wips to lash at her face.
Crystal woke up with a gasp. Her shoulder and face was throbbing with agonizing pain. She looked at the clock. 10:00 A.M. She figured she might as well get some homework done before having to go to detention.
After completing all of her History Science and Math homework she only had an hour left before she had to go to detention. She hadnt even told her parents yet. In fact she hadnt even told Alec. She spent her last hour reading her favorite book.
Crystal snuck out of the hotel and down to school. The front desk told her where to go. In room 419 seven other kids sat in a large spread out room. Principle Hartfeild handed everyone a slip of paper. "Your parents must sign this paper by tomorrow. If you dont hand it in tomorrow its another weeks detention for everyone" He said sternly.
Crystal sighed and drummed her fingers on the desk. She didnt deserve this. She didnt think she did. Crystal stared out of the 2nd floor window and saw someone down by the bleachers. His short blond hair flew about. Jacob was staring through the window at her. Crystal tried to ignore him but she kept looking back. Eventually her 3 hours of detention had passed and she raced out of the building being careful to pass by the bleachers. She ran up into her hotel room
Alec was there with an arm load of books. "Where have you been? I thought I told you to lay off all the running today." Crystal panted and sat down, her shoulder aching. "Just, around." She replied cripticly. "Well your helpful." Alec shook his head and sat down with his books.
Crystal waited for the day to be over.
