"Hi, Bunny." he smiled the way he always did when he calls her. Only this time, Kathryn felt her heart twitching.
It's been years. How could he appear out of no where after all these years he's gone missing? Hindi namalayan ni Kathryn na nakatunganga na pala siya. Unable to utter a single reply. She honestly thinks he doesn't deserve it anyway.
Daniel had to snap his fingers to get her back. "Hey, you okay?"
"Huh? Ahm...yeah. Ano, may naisip lang ako and I didn't expect you to be here so..." she quickly stood up and attempted to walk away.
"Teka lang." Daniel was too fast grabbing her by the elbow. The mere touch sent her to places she has long forgotten.
Bumaba ang tingin ni Kathryn sa hawak sa kanya kaya nagkusa si Daniel na bumitaw. "Don't leave." he said in a small voice.
Kathryn scoffed and even chuckled a bit. "I'm not the one who's fond of leaving." hindi niya alam kung bakit niya ba isinalita yon. Dapat ay sa isip niya lang yon sinabi. Now it's too late to act unfazed.
That instance, the smile on Daniel's charming face faded and his eyes grew sad for a while before faking a smile again. "Ako na magbubukas niyan." he offered taking the box of cookies from Kathryn.
She gave him the box of cookies to be opened. Hanggat maari ay iniiwasan niyang magkasalubong sila ng tingin. Kathryn could feel his stare though.
"What are you doing here?" she bravely asked.
A smile crept all over his lips, almost like a smirk "I came looking for you. Kakarating ko lang eh. As in mga three hours ago."
When he wasn't looking, Kathryn took the chance to give him a quick gaze. Daniel in his ripped jeans, black shirt. The same style in clothes he wore back in the day. The leather jacket must be because of the cold weather from where he came from.
"Why?" Kathryn continued with her questions.
"What do you mean why?" he answered her with another question.
Kathryn got confused. "Am I missing anything? Is he saying na basta na lang niya ako naalalang puntahan? Bakit naman ako hahanapin ng siraulong to?" she asked herself, this time in silence.
"Why were you looking for me?" Kathryn sounded irritated. She crossed her arms watching Daniel feed Lola Fanya the cookies.
Bumalik si Daniel sa kinatatayuan ni Kathryn at bahagyang ibinaba ang mukha para maging magkalebel ang kanyang bibig sa tenga ni Kathryn. "Dapat ba may rason para puntahan kita?" he grinned. Usually, that move saves him but today is not his lucky day.
Lalong sumimangot si Kathryn bago siya nito tarayan "After being gone for so long without a word? Yes Daniel Simon. Dapat lang may rason ka."
Imbes na matakot sa pagtataray ni Kathryn ay tumawa pa siya "Straightforward ka pa rin. Di ka pa rin nagbabago." he said shaking his head lightly.
Taliwas sa nararamdamang tuwa ni Daniel ay lagpas tao naman ang pagkainis ni Kathryn sa mga oras na iyon. "Why is he being like this?! He seems so...so...so unaffected!" she screams in her head.
Konti na lang ay maluluha na siya kaya't minabuti ni Kathryn na talikuran na lang ito. Bago pa makita ni Daniel ang bahagi niya na hindi pa rin nagbabago.
"Diyan ka nagkakamali. Marami ng nagbago Daniel. It's been seven years." she said trying her hardest not to break.
Kathryn looked at him one last time and said "Please don't pretend like you left just a day ago." she grabbed her things and left hastily.
