I sat in my desk, fidgeting with my pencil. I was still trying to figure out what Camel said,but i had dismissed it to the back of my mind. Nothing new was going on, Camel hadn’t killed anyone, Kate didn’t have any new video games, Ethan was still trying to get everyone to join the martial arts club, and Javon didn’t talk to anybody. I blew a strand of hair out of my face and continued to ignore the teacher.

“Psssst.”

I ignored that too, assuming it was a whisper-call for someone else.

“PSSSST.”

I rolled my eyes, continuing to ignore my surroundings…

TUNK.

...until a pencil flew aT MY FACE AND GOT STUCK IN MY EAR.

WHAT THE HELL.

I yanked the pencil out of my ear and looked around angrily. I spotted Midori, who sat diagonally from me, waving at me.

“What the hell do you want?!” I hissed.

“I was thinking of taking you after school to meet some new people,” she whispered. “You’re into girls, right!”

If anyone had a death wish against me, it was this bitch.

“What kind of faggot do you take me for?” I whisper-shouted. As soon as the f word left my lips, I immediately regretted it. I thought I would never say anything like that, especially about my own community.

“I don’t like girls, I especially don’t like you, and your little socializing plan with me can fuck off and take a hike down shithole mountain.”

Midori gasped, and I’m assuming it was because of my language. I tend to have that impression on people.

“KITOKI.”

I jumped around in my seat as the teacher slapped her ruler on my desk. “Should I continue with the lesson, or should I leave you and your girlfriend alone so you can disrupt our class? Or perhaps send you both to the office?”

Apparently people have no problem with sexuality here.

“Well, Miss,” I started, straightening my tie, “Technically, you would have to shut us up and continue on with the lesson. That is, of course, if you want to get paid. Considering you work on the bare bottom of minimum wage, I would advise you to continue teaching. However, according to the rule book, which was totally outdated in 1993, and I quote, ‘A student is not allowed to advise or address a teacher, crew, or staff member within school grounds of which upon the concerns of their skill, technique, requirements, or ability to fulfill the role of which has been appointed to them from the basis of a teacher, crew, or staff member.’ end quote.” I cleared my throat and stood up. I was far from finished. “Of course, assuming that you meant that earlier questions as a rhetorical and passive threat, that is entirely open for debate and your decision. So, in not a final conclusion, I cannot answer that for you, as that would be breaking school code.”

Hopping up to sit on the edge of the desk, I continued, “Yet in my earlier statement, I made a note of context about your question. Applying tone and context to your question, I identified it as a rhetorical, passive threat toward me, the student. However, in our schools violence policy and warnings, it clearly states that a student cannot threaten another teacher or student, and vice versa.” Picking up and Appel off the corner of her desk, I examined it and proceeded to polish it with my sleeve. “Presuming the school board meant to stick by all the rules they wrote, you have been threatening me and violating school code. I, by not answering your question was in no wrong or disregard of the school code. So it would be most likely of you to get the referral, if we are speaking literally. Now,” I took a bite of the apple, “you wouldn’t want to do that, would you?”

The teacher opened up her mouth, but was cut off by the bell.

Swallowing, I spoke one more line of sass and explanation to the class:

“Any questions?”
