This is the second time today. Why do I keep on bumping into him? Is this a sign? I just saw him like, three hours ago. It's such a small world.

Yes. It's definitely a sign.

It means that I should go home soon because I've been out of the house half of the day already.

"Hey Garett! Come here!"

My eyes quickly snapped at Patrick, who was now motioning Garett to our table. I leaned in to Patrick so we were face to face.

I whispered to him, "What are you doing?!"

"Uh.. telling Garett to sit with us?" he said, obviously confused.

"I know? Why are you doing that exactly?!"

Before he could answer, Garett was already at the side of our table. I glanced quickly at him then looked back at Patrick, who was smiling at Garett.

"Why are you just standing there?"

Garett took that ats a cue to sit down. Not beside Patrick, but beside me. That made me scoot a little to the window.

Nobody spoke for awhile and Patrick was just continuously eating his ice cream. I cleared my throat and looked directly at Patrick.

"So, how do you guys know each other?"

A snort came out from Patrick and scrunched his face up in disbelief.

"You've been my babysitter for a long time  now and you still don't know that he's my older brother?"

Pause.

He's his what?

Older brother?

"You guys are what?"

Garett then joined in on our conversation.

"We're brothers"

I looked beside me, then in front of me, then beside me. I went back and forth.

They do look alike.

Of course they do dumbo, they're siblings

"How did I not know this?"

"I don't know.." Patrick shrugged "..but now you do"

It's a small world indeed

"Whatever. Finish up your ice cream so we could go home"

"Why the rush Quin?"

I saw Garett nodding at what Patrick said and turned to him.

"He's right. Why the rush? You haven't even finished your ice cream yet"

I pushed my cup a little bit from me and Garett reached out for it, having a spoonful. From my spoon. It may not seem such a big deal but, hello? That spoon came out from my mouth!

"Aren't you afraid you're gonna have STDs?" I asked him after he shoved another spoonful.

He looked at me for awhile and shrugged then ate again. "I'm guessing you're not into that stuff so I doubt you even have any"

I'm not sure if I'm insulted or relieved with his answer but I decided to let it go. Why waste time arguing with someone you don't even know, right?

Wait, I do know him. I just don't know know him.

"You sure do like spacing out huh?"

I snapped to reality when I heard what Garett said.

"What do you mean exactly?"

"You were doing that too at McDonald's earlier"

"Oh, uh.. I was just thinking"

It's true. I do space out a lot. I never really paid attention to what people were saying to me. Except for some people I choose to talk to. And Sabrina, because if you don't listen to any word she says, say goodbye to your ears.

"You guys were together earlier?"

Garett and I nodded at Patrick, who now has an empty cup in front of him.

"And I wasn't invited?"

"It wasn't on purpose bud. We aren't even close"

"You're not? But you're on the same grade level"

"Yep. We are. But that doesn't mean we're close now are we?"

He sighed and nodded in agreement. I got up and grabbed my wallet. Patrick did the same, as did Garett.

"Where are we going?"

I turned to Garett, "I'm walking Patrick home. Why?"

"It's still early though?"

"I know? Your point is?"

"It's still early so.. why not do something outside for awhile?"

"We already did. We ate ice cream.. outside"

"That's all?"

I let out a frustrated groan, "Talking to you is tiring"

"Why don't we go to the park?"

"Then what? You're gonna go down the slide, little girl?"

He shrugged, "Yeah, why not?"

I was about to say something when Patrick cleared his throat.

"Uhm hello? Can you guys move? You're blocking the entrance"

Realizing he was right, I pushed the door and let myself out. Patrick followed then Garett too.

"So, can we go home now?" I asked Patrick once we were outside.

"Are we gonna watch a movie?"

A snicker came out from Garett, making me look at him with my eyebrow raised.

"Movies are lame. Let's go to the park!"

"Okay then"

Patrick started to walk ahead of us and I had no choice but to follow him.

"You're really gonna have it your way won't you?"

Garett nodded and started catching up to his little brother.

When we got to the park, there were about five boys playing soccer. One of them called out Patrick and motioned him to join them.

Patrick looked at me as if he was asking for permission and I nodded.

He smiled widely and ran as fast as he could towards the group. I sat down on one swing and Garett did the same.

"Patrick's really fond of you isn't he?" he spoke after a little while.

I shrugged, "I guess so..I mean, he's pretty much with me most of the time when Elizabeth's not around"

He didn't bother replying so I asked him again, "Come to think of it, why haven't I seen you around your house? It's kinda weird"

"I'm mostly out. At a friend's or just roaming around"

"Is that why Elizabeth doesn't ask you to watch Patrick when she's out of the house?"

"For the most part, yes. But she doesn't want me to do that. She said she doesn't want to get in the way of my "teenage freedom""

He explained, using air quotes.

"Oh.. that's cool then"

"Yeah"

We watched Patrick play soccer for another hour and then we decided to head home.

I still can't believe they're siblings
