College Papers Suck

Lucas's POV

I turn over in bed trying to pull my girl into me but when I open my eyes, she isn't there. I frown in confusion before getting up and shuffling my way to the living room.

"Babygirl what're you doing up so early?" I ask rubbing my tired eyes.

"Oh good morning babe." Maya says as she types on her laptop.

"Once again, why are you awake at this time of day?" I ask.

"I have a big paper due tonight and since I'm the queen of procrastinating, I have nothing done! And my anxiety is acting up and I'm stressed so I just need alone time!" She shouts at me. I know she isn't angry at me, she's just stressed and that makes me sad. I walk over to her and put my hands on her shoulders before leaning down and kissing her temple.

"Just breathe babygirl, everything will be okay. When's the paper due?" I ask rubbing her shoulders gently.

"11:59pm." She groans.

"Okay well it's only 7:30 right now so you have plenty of time to work." I say.

"I'm sorry for yelling, I'm just frustrated. Sophomore year is kicking my ass and we already have a paper due but it's only our first week back from fall break. Ugh I hate college." She pouts.

"After you're done with all your work, we'll take a nice bubble bath together and we can even do face masks!" I say which makes her giggle.

"Okay, that sounds great." She smiles.

"If you need me to get you anything, I will. Just tell me okay?" I ask.

"Okay. Maybe later you can get me some Dutch Bros?" She asks with a smile on her face.

"Of course, baby. I'll leave you alone so you can work." I say.

"I know you wanna go back to sleep. So go, go get some rest." She says and I nod and start waking away. "But kiss first!" She shouts. I chuckle and make my way back over to her planting a kiss on her perfect lips before going back to our room and falling back asleep.

When I wake up a few hours later, I go back out to the living room to see Maya furiously typing on her laptop. She looks so cute and focused with her hair in a bun and her glasses on. I'm the only person she allows to see herself with her glasses on. No one else even knows about them besides her family, but still, they never see her with them on. She hates them so much, even though I think she looks like an adorable little baby in them. I pull up a chair next to her and kiss her on the cheek softly.

"How's it going my little genius?" I ask.

"My eyes hurt and I'm about to start crying from stress so that's great!" She says her voice cracking and that's when I get concerned. I move the laptop away from her before picking her up and moving her to my lap.

"Hey, no tears babygirl, no tears." I say rubbing her back up and down.

"It's too hard. I can't focus and I'm tired." She says as a few tears flow down her pale makeup free cheeks.

"I think you should take a break. Maybe take a quick nap and then I can go get you some food when you wake up." I suggest.

"I don't wanna sleep for too long." She whines.

"It'll be a power nap, I'll wake you up in 30 minutes okay?" I suggest and she nods.

"Will you cuddle me?" She asks looking up at me.

"Always." I say before bringing her over to the couch. She puts her head in my shoulder and her legs over mine before trying to fall asleep. After a few minutes, her breathing becomes heavier and I look down to see she's asleep. My girl looks so cute when she's sleeping. Her plump lips are all pouty and she just looks so peaceful. I hate the fact that she's so stressed, and there's nothing I can do about it. I grab my phone and set a timer for 30 minutes before grabbing the tv remote and turning it on to a low volume. I think about getting up and going to get her some food, but by the way she's holding onto me, I can tell she just wants to be held. So that's what I do, I hold her in my arms while watching the TV waiting for my baby to wake up.
