Chapter 4 ~ The Festival

So I put a little edit up above to get us into the sports festival mood 😋! This is not mine! I'm sorry I don't know the owner but credit to whoever made it! I'm gonna start doing this now. I'm in love with so many edits and I wanna share them with you guys. Most will probably be of my baby Kirishima❤️. And for this chapter in both the Calvary battle and the one-on-one battles I'm going to put Mei in Iida's place. I'm sorry if anyone doesn't like this idea! I love him but I want to put Mei's speed from her quirk into action.

Mei's POV
I woke to the sound of my alarm blaring
*BEEP BEEP BEEP BEE-*
I groaned as I pressed snooze and rolled over onto my stomach. I was about to drift back off into sleep but immediately jumped out of bed and began rummaging through my laundry and grabbed my uniforms.
"Today! It's the sports festival!"

Time skip to 1-A Prep Room at the festival!!!

"Is everyone ready!?! The events about to begin!!" Iida exclaimed as me and my classmates prepared for the events that would take place. I was mid conversation with Uraraka and a few others about how we wish we could wear our costumes. "Midoriya." The booming voice caused everyone to turn around and figure out who sounded so serious. It was Todoroki. "Todoroki... what is it?", this coming from Izuku. Todoroki shoved his hands in his pockets and glared at Izuku. "Objectively speaking... I'm stronger than you. More capable." I whispered to Uraraka "what the hell..." she shook her head not knowing what was going on. Izuku stuttered "huh? S-sure..."
"All Might's got his eye on you, doesn't he." Izuku gave a shocked expression and Todoroki continued. "Now I'm not about to pry into why that is, but I will beat you." In the background Kaminari piped up "Ooh!! A declaration of war from the strongest in the class?!" I turned and shushed him causing him to pout and sink into his seat. Kirishima grabbed Todoroki by the shoulder, "Hey man, why pick a fight now? We're about to go on..." Todoroki shoved Kirishima's hand away, offending him slightly and turned back to Izuku. "I really don't care. I'm not pretending to be anyone's friend here." It was silent for a few seconds before Izuku spoke. "Todoroki. I'm not sure why you felt he need to tell me you'll beat me... you're clearly stronger and I can't measure up to most of the others here in skill, objectively speaking even..." I took a step forward towards the boys and spoke, "You don't have to be so negative Izuku. T-there's no need to-" Izuku shot his head up and glared into Todoroki's eyes. "But...!! Everyone, even the kids from the other courses are aiming for the top. And I'm... well, lemme say this. I'm not gonna fall behind. I'm going for it too. With everything I've got!" Todoroki was surprised by Izuku's sudden confidence. "...right" he said quietly as the speakers blared and announced for us to head out to the stadium. Everyone walked out silently, shaken from the weird event that just took place. I found Kirishima and walked beside him. "That was weird..." he said almost in a whisper. I nodded my head in agreement. "...kinda got me pumped though." And with that we made our way to the stadium.

As we got closer to the entrance it seemed everyone got more serious, game faces on. "The first year stage. The students are coming out!!", the speaker blared and so did the audience. Thousands of people screaming our names and cheering us on. Everyone from every first year course gathered around and waiting for the host to arrive. Kirishima bumped my shoulder. "I wonder who's gonna host this year?"
Suddenly there was the cracking of a whip and everyone's attention was force upfront. "Now for the athlete's oath!!" There were ouuu's and ahhhh's as the host showed herself. "Oh my. It's Midnight the R-rated teacher." I chuckled to myself. The boys are gonna have a hard time focusing with her around. Kirishima blushed. "R-rated? Should she really be in Highschool?", Tokoyami asked loud enough for Midnight to hear. "Shut it!" Everyone quieted down immediately. She cleared her throat and continued, "You're student representative is... from class 1-A Katsuki Bakugo!" I scoffed, "Seriously?" Bakugo walked up onto stage and tapped the microphone and cleared his throat. "I just wanted to say..." he looked around at everyone, "I'm gonna win." I shook my head and facepalmed myself. Everyone screamed and boo'd him off stage. Iida gasped, "I knew he'd say something like that! Now they're all gonna hate us!" "Now, without any delay, let's get the first event started." Everyone's attention went back to Midnight. She turned her attention to the board which would determine what the event would be based on a random draw. "And the qualifying event will be..." *ding* "obstacle course!" Everyone erupted into speech when the whip was cracked once again. Midnight proceeded to explain what will be happening and the rules... which are none existent. "You can use your quirks in anyway and at anytime during the race." Everyone lined up at the start line, me being near the back. With everyone in their starting positions the buzzer went back from three. *ding* *ding* *ding* *DING* And everyone sprinted for the entrance. I was being squished, kicked and punched while trying to make it through the first door way. I saw a few students use their quirks and flew up and over the student. "I get it... this is the first obstacle!" I thought to myself, there's only one way I can make it out of here before a lot of other students do. I charged up and shot forward at lightning speed, knocking everyone in my path down. I escaped and turned around to the students at the entrance, "sorry bout that!!" I continued running at a regular pace with everyone, I'd say I'm in about 35... no 40th place right now. I calmed myself down, no worries there's still lots of time. I ran past a few students but came to an abrupt stop when I noticed huge robots blocking the track. "ROBO INFERNO!!" Present Mic screamed over the speakers. "Oh god..." I turned to look at a few students standing next to me "it's the zero pointers from the exam!!" I shook my head and charged forward, but gonna let this stop me now, I worked to hard for this. *Boom* *BOOM* Todoroki had managed to take one out himself. "Damn..." a few students quickly made their way through and continued on to the next obstacle. I charged up and sprinted to one of the robots. "Tsk... this is gonna hurt pretty bad..." I came to the robots leg and placed my hand on it releasing all the power I had charged up in it exploding the robots leg into bit. I turned to yell at the students behind me. "TIMBER!!!" The students managed to jump out of the way and I sighed in relief. First one down, only a few more to go. My arm was throbbing in pain, my muscles are gonna be sore for a while after doing that. I'm still behind most of my classmates. Arriving at the next obstacle I met up with Uraraka and Tsu. "Whoa..." I said as I looked over the cavern. "Right" this coming from a worried Uraraka. Tsu saluted to us, wished us good luck and went through the obstacle with ease due to her frog-like abilities. So many people were making it across with ease. "Ahhh think Hana think!" I said running my eyes. A lightbulb went off in my head and I wished Uraraka good luck. I'll just sprint over every line. Surprisingly that tactic was super easy and I got through the obstacle in no time. "Jeez I just wasted a lot of time trying to think up some amazing plan...tsk..." I shook my head and continued on to the last obstacle. A mine field, nice. I met up with Kirishima who was trying to figure out how to make it through. "Why don't you just harden yourself the entire time an-" he cut me off "already thought of that. I'll get blown up into the air." I nodded in agreement. "But for you, you can just sprint through the entire thing, and your acrobatics could save you from some explosions." I nodded "but I could risk injuring other students in my way. I looked around and gasped. "I'll go along one of the sides! No one is running there!" I wished Kirishima luck and he began to tip toe through the field and yelled, "GO HANA GO!" Once I made it to the side far away from the others I charged up and dash through creating a huge line of explosions following behind me. Once I made it to the end of the field I looked up to see an airborne Izuku flying towards Todoroki and Bakugo dangerously fast. I've gotta win this, I can win this!! I quickly caught up to the boys when we were about 50m from the finish line. I used my quirk and dashed to the finish line, I'm so close I can almost taste it. I began to cheer for myself when I was 10 meters from the finish line when a severe shock of pain shot through my entire body and I collapsed. I'm inside the tunnel so no one in the stadium can see me. "Dammit! Ahh!" I curled into a ball of pain and tried getting up. Izuku rushed passed me and turned back at me looking concerned and ran across the finish line, followed by Todoroki and Bakugo. Five other students ran past that I didn't recognize except for Kirishima who was in fourth, but turned and looked at me worried and ran back. He knelt down beside me and picked me up. "Kirishima... why..." he shushed me and sprinted to the finish line holding me out in front of him so I'd cross first. "In 8th and 9th Hana Mei and Eijiro Kirishima!!" He brought me over to spot away from others and sat me down. "Can I get some water?!" He yelled. I began to feel better, the pain subsiding. "What happened to you? Are you hurt? Do I need to call for the nur-" I cut him off placing a finger over his mouth. "I'm fine, that just happens when I over use my quirk, all the energy drains from my body and it starts rejecting itself." Kirishima nodded his head in understanding and we sat together resting for the next event. A few others came over to speak to me and ask what happened but Kirishima shooed them away knowing I didn't really want to talk about it. "Why?" I asked looking up at him. Kirishima cocked and eyebrow. "Why did you stop and come back for me? You could've been in the top 5!" Kirishima smiled and stood up extending a hand out for me. "Cuz, I saw how hard you worked through the entire race and you don't deserve to go from first to last because you tried your best, it doesn't get to work like that for you." I blushed and took his hand standing up. "Plus Top 10 is still pretty damn good" he said winking. I couldn't help myself and I hugged him pressing my face into the crook of his neck and sighing, "thank you Kirishima..." he was tense but relaxed and gently hugged me back. "You're welcome." We both pulled away and looked into each others eyes. I swear he was about to lean into me closer but we were interrupted by Uraraka and Tsu. "It's time for the next event you guys! Let's go!" We separated from our hug and both laughed awkwardly and looked at each other in silence. "Guess we better get going..." I said holding my hands behind my back and rocking back and forth from my toes to my heels. "O-oh! Yeah!" He began to walk off following the other students and I followed behind scratching my neck. "What just happened?" I mumbled under my breath. I looked him up and down, I observed. The way his body moved, how his muscles tensed with every step he took. Oh and those muscular arms are jus-. I blushed a deep red, covered my face and squealed. Kirishima turned around and looked at me, an eyebrow raised. As we joined the other students I waved my hands and assured him that it was nothing and sighed in relief.

"The top 42 will move on! But for those who didn't qualify don't worry! We've got other events to show of your stuff!!" Kirishima nudged my shoulder "see! Us placing 8th and 9th is perfectly fine!" I smiled and turned my attention back on Midnight. "And now the main selection begins! The press corps are going to be jumping out of their seats so give it all you got!" The students erupted in conversation. "Quiet! Our second event will beeeee! Cavalry Battle!!!"

I apologize for how long this chapter took to write. Exam season is upon us and I've been having a difficult time procrastinating but I appreciate your patience! The next chapter will obviously be about the cavalry battle and possibly some one-on-one battles depending on how descriptive I go. Anyway! Hope you enjoyed!
