Chapter 4
When I wake up, I see Zaelia sitting across from me. We are in a small loft from the looks of it. I sit up on the couch I am laying on.
"Hey." I say
"Hey? You do realize that I just saved your life from your psychotic girlfriend, who may might I, add I warned you about, and all you have to say is hey?"
"Thank you so much Zaelia. I really do appreciate this. I should have listened to you. Should have trusted you. Ii was just that with all the bad things that had happened around you-,"
"Parker, you don't have to explain yourself. I can see now that my method of approaching you wasn't the most convincing. But you're here now and that's all that matters. Are you ready to go?"
"Go where exactly?"
"To the coves of course. That is where we first lived. It is a pretty secluded area, so we should be fine. Plus it is nighttime. All you have to do is swim until you drown and become a merman, and then you will be fine." Zaelia said this so nonchalantly, I was stunned.
"Whoa, whoa, whoa. Hold on Zaelia. I know you want me to do this to brake the curse and all that, but I was thinking, and I don't know if I want the burden of this gene on me. And I absolutely do not want to die."
"Parker, I just saved your life, the least you could do-,"
"Zaelia, you saved me because you need me. Let's be real here. If I had already broken the curse, you would have left me there to die."
"Well, I mean not necessarily. But if you don't do this for me, for us. The people that Gia works for will come after you. And they won't stop until you're dead."
"Who is this "us" anyways?"
"Well if you come with me there are about a hundred of us or so that will be waiting at the coves for us, and we are already running late."
"Look Zaelia, I appreciate you saving me and all, but I can't get any more involved than I already am." I get up and start to walk over to the door.
"Parker, stop." I turn around and Zaelia is right behind me, "Don't do this Parker. You need me just as much as I need you. Think about this." I see a syringe on a side table next to me and I hope that it is filled with the sedate.
"I am sorry Zaelia," I say to her. I turn around and quickly grab the syringe. I spin and plunge it into her arm.
"Parker," she says groggily, "H-h-how cou-uu-ld-," Those are all the slurred words that Zaelia can manage before she collapses into my arms. I take her over to the couch that I was previously in. I kiss her forehead, and walk out.
