Prologue, June 24th.

Esmae Masako, age 14. She slowly got up, brushing her jet black hair away from her eyes. Esmae sighed, the day that she went blind in her left eye was the day she was destined to be dead. "Why am I still here...." Esmae quietly mumbled to herself. Her fingertips caressed the wooden dresser as she walked past. Esmae was stuck in a mental hospital from her attempts of suicide, just as her ex always screamed at her "NOT MY FAULT YOU GET INTO HOSPITALS SO OFTEN. BYE." After that she felt nothing, a long time ago Esmae wanted to be alive. Not dead. A nurse confronted her, ushering back inside. "Sit. Stay. Don't leave this room." That's all she was told throughout her years of the mental hospital, like Esmae was stuck in some sort of anti-social bubble. The hospital eyepatch slowly fell onto the floor, revealing her dark purple eye, a star symbol printed over the pupil. Esmae quickly grabbed the eyepatch and covered her eyes, her black nails slowly darkened. Esmae sat on the squeaky bed, she looked over to the sliced curtains a smokey haze covered her window. Esmae smirked and opened the window, horrified screams filled the horizons, the crackling of the courtyard on fire brought a twisted smile on her face. "Burn.....Burn...." Esmae quietly mumbled. She closed the window, laying in her bed as the fire slowly died out. A boy about the age of 15 stood in her door way. "Who are you.....?" Esmae got up, only wearing her Japanese black uniform as she stared at the boy. The boy smiled and approached carefully "I'm Seth...." Esmae didn't reply, she looked away back towards the window. "How come you cover up your eye?" Esmae shot a glare at Seth, just as he tried pulling off her eye patch Esmae quickly slapped his hand away. "Why does it matter? I'm already blind." Seth grabbed both of Esmae's hands, squeezing them tightly with a warm smile on his face. "You're not normal are you?" Esmae looked at him, she shook her head and sat down on the bed. "No.... Not at all..." Seth smiled and sat next to her, looking towards her. "Most of the patients are gone, along with the doctors and nurses." Esmae slowly got up, was it true or was it lies? She peered out into the hallway. Silence. Esmae took a step out of her room, darkness slowly crept towards her end of the corridor. Seth stood next to her as he shut the door behind him, whispering in her ear "good luck with trying to escape." Esmae glanced at Seth who vanished out of sight, she gripped her arms tightly. All of her fears came to life; alone, darkness, and fear. Fear. That's the word to describe Esmae's life. Just one big fear, she was even scared to have a nurse leave her for 15 minuets. Every step she took closer to the darkness the faster her heart raced. Esmae finally looked towards the darkness and smiled. A guy about the age of 15 looked directly back at her, as he approached sudden realization had struck Esmae. She gulped and backed up, turning around and bolting straight back towards her room and slamming the door begin her shut. "There's no need to be afraid...." Esmae curled up in a ball, pushing the door to be shut so nobody would come in. The boy kept knocking, just as he turned around to leave, she slowly cracked open the door, peaking out. The boy quickly turned and smiled. His black hair covering most of his face, he wore blue headphones, a white shirt and black jeans. Seth stood beside him and smiled, Esmae slowly got up, fully opening the door. "I'm Avery..." The boy smiled and reached his hand out to Esmae. Esmae slowly grabbed both of their hands, glancing downwards. "Don't worry... You aren't scared of the dark are you?"
