He never understood why. Things were going great in his life: he had great friends, a great family, everything! But all that changed in one day.
-Flashback-
Yugi was making his way to his locker through the slightly crowded hallway. It had been finals week and everyone was on edge, except him. For some odd reason, he didn't feel nervous. Maybe it's because he knew his material and was passing with flying colors.
He was startled when he felt a hand grip his shoulder, catching him off guard. His first thoughts were of Ushio, his FORMER school bully. Ushio was kicked out due to being caught harassing the freshmen and even punching a teacher in the face. It pained Yugi to see that Ushio had grown violent and hoped the young man could one day change.
He was greeted by his long time friends, Jounouchi and Honda. "Oh! Jounouchi-kun!" He exclaimed. "You scared me."...something was off. Yugi couldn't put his finger on it, but he could swear he saw a glint of aroogance in the blonde's eyes. "Hey, Yugi, Honda and I want to show you something outside. I think you'll like it."
Yugi was hesitant at first, oblivious to what was to come. He smiled and nodded, following them....
--6 hours later-
Yugi groaned as he sat up, rubbing his head as it created a sharp and unbearable pain. His eyes opened slowly as he began taking in his surroundings. He was outside, at the back end of the school. He couldn't tell if he was seeing it right, but...it was night time. The building's lights were off and the streets were lit up. He began panicking. 'How long was I out?!" He mentally screamed. He took out his phone and his heart fell when he saw the time... 9:55. And he had 12 missed calls from his mother.
She was for sure gonna kill him when he got home. He stood up, nearly collapsing when he lost feeling in his right leg. In fact, just about every part of his body was hurting, but that didn't matter to him. He needed to get home.
He ran, or rather, limped his way back home, his heart nearly stopping when he saw a police car parked in their driveway. He took a shaky breath and walked up the stairs, hearing a young man's voice, which he had assumed was the officer, and his mother's.
She was crying, from what he could hear. It made him feel guilty, yet, it wasn't his fault. Yugi's hand pushed the door open, triggering the small bell that they put up. The talking stopped and was greeted with arms wrapping around him. "Yugi!" His mother cried, holding her lille boy close. An just as he predicted, an officer made his way to their living room.
He pointed a finger to Yugi. "Is that your son?" He asked. Yugi watched as his mother nodded. They talked things over while Yugi sat with his mom, not even looking up from the floor. The officer soon left and now it was just her and Yugi. He took a deep breath as he opened his mouth. "Mom, I-" He felt a harsh slap on his cheek.
"Where were you, Yugi?!" She cried out sadly. He looked in shock, holding his throbbing cheek. "I was so worried about you, sweetie! I called you so many times and you weren't answering! I was scared something had happened to you." She fell to the floor, sobbing. Yugi felt a lump in his throat, and soon he fell to the floor, holding his mom and sobbing.
Hours went by and soon, his mother had gone to bed. But not before making sure her son was in his room. While he lay in bed, it began raining. Not a violent storm. Just a light shower. He sighed, his body still aching slightly. He took his phone and ear buds out. He pressed play and softly sang to himself.
"Will you end my pain?
Will you take my life?
Will you bleed me out?
Will you hang me out to dry?
Will you take my soul, in the midnight rain?
While I'm falling apart, while I'm going
Insane...?"But little did he know was that his life would change for the better the very next day...
