Phos·pho·res·cence. Light emitted by a substance without combustion or perceptible heat.
Despite what one may think about a world run by demons, your world was actually cold. It wasn't lit by fires, but by neon and electricity pulsing through crystals and wires.
It had been a week since you'd last seen the two demons. They'd been surprisingly careful not to mark you, so you didn't have to cover any of your body in excess clothing or makeup.
You sat on the subway, fixing the elaborate makeup you wore. It wasn't your choice. It was part of your uniform. Most of it was hidden under your mask, so you didn't understand why you needed it, but you didn't mind. At least you had a job.
The train slowed to a stop, and you exited at the busy platform. People and demons brushed past you as you walked along the faintly glowing tiles to the stairs.
When you reached the surface, freezing rain lashed at your face. It had been raining off and on since the two demons arrived in your life. A part of you wondered if they had any influence over the weather.
Your workmates all huddle together as they walked, but you stayed separate. Despite the harsh coldness, you could still find beauty in how the neon lights shone through the droplets, creating tiny, temporary stars against the cloudy night sky.
Sadly, you had to say goodbye to the falling galaxy as you went inside Decadence.
You spent the first hour or so getting prepped for the night's service, but as soon as service began, you were called up to Lounge A.
Your heart fluttered. They were back.
Taking a deep breath, you headed up the stairs to the lounge.
They were here.
You took one last deep breath before entering the lounge.
"Ah, our little pet is back." Green smirked. You noticed he had an accent, but it was too old for you to know where it came from.
They called you a pet. A shiver shot through your spine, tickling each vertebra. You weren't exactly sure why it was so unsettling. The two seemed kind. Well, for demons, at least.
"Come, join us." Red's voice was as silky as the curtains that lined the windows.
You bit your lip. "Umm, this is going to sound weird, but we actually just added a bunch of new drinks to our menu, and I need to learn how to make them."
"You'd think they'd give humans extra time to learn, no?" Green snickered, eyes glowing a neon green.
"We'll give you time to work, as long as you promise not to keep us waiting too long," Red said.
"Thank you, sirs." You bow slightly and head over to the bar.
There were ten new drinks, and you had only mastered the three most popular ones. You still weren't even sure what a Brimstone Blast was and why it contained sulfur, but it was about time to learn.
As you worked on the drinks, you decided to listen in on their conversation. A part of you felt taboo for eavesdropping, but you were potentially going to live with them. You wanted to know everything you could.
The two talked about business and potentially acquiring some property in this sector of the capital. Businessmen. It made sense, really. They were obviously wealthy, considering they could rent the private lounge, and given that you'd never seen the demon who was twirling on the pole, they were renting private dancers as well.
You also found out that Red was named Dark, and Green was called Anti. The names were rather... strange, which gave an indication that they named themselves. These men were powerful, no doubt.
