Wendy let out a deep sigh as she laid her eyes on the empty fridge in front of her. She scratched the back of her head before heading to her bedroom. She quickly grabbed her coat and reached for both her cellphone and wallet at the same time which was placed on her bed and went straight to the convenience store right across her apartment.
Wendy has been very busy the past few days that she totally has no spare time to do anything very important, like grocery shopping. She has been ordering food every day and every night that she got sick of it, and she rarely got to cook food even, she surely missed cooking for herself.
The cold autumn wind made her clutch her jacket firmly since she kind of felt shivers, but set aside that fact, she really loves every single thing about autumn. Since it reminded her a lot of things.
The spicy scent of ramen entranced her as soon as she pushed the store's glass door, she sure was hungryー not to mention that grumbling stomach. "Wait for me precious ramen." she muttered under her breath as soon as she passed by the area to get a basket.
It has been a long time since she last entered this convenience store. Noticing that the cashier's no longer her friend Yerin, it really has been a long time.
She grabbed a bunch of instant rice and carefully placed them on the basket she carried on her right hand. She continued to roam around the store, trying to remember everything she needed without relying on the list on her phone at the moment since that it's pretty hard for her to get it out of her pocket.
As soon as she finally placed her basket on a chair beside the counter, she then clutched for her phone using her free hand and checked to see if she completed her grocery list. She was about to place it back inside her pocket knowing that she completed everything, when she remembered that she definitely typed something at the utmost bottom part of her listー And there surely was something written.
"Cereal, I almost forgot!"
Wendy raised her head to look for the cereal section sign board, which she found not as long as 2 seconds. She quickly ran towards the long array of various cereal boxes, immediately roaming her eyes around to look for her favorite cereal.
But to her dismay, it was placed at the upper part of the shelves. Considering the fact that she's pretty small to reach the box of cereal, she'd probably give up, but that's her favorite cereal were talking about, there's no way she would give up for it.
There weren't a lot of people inside the store to see any of her embarrassing actions, like what she's doing right now for example.
She carefully placed her foot on the shelf, trying not to make any kind of accident that could get her in trouble. The cereal box was still out of reach that she took another step upward looking like a desperate monkey that's trying to get a banana that is way too far away to reach.
"Just a little bit more." she muttered under her breath, stretching her hand as far as it could.
"Need help? Let me get it for you." a guy said from behind her.
Wendy was caught off guard and was definitely surprised by the sudden presence of the guy that her left foot suddenly slipped from where it was, she then was out of balance that she fell to the floor, a bunch of cereal boxes falling which made her yelp in pain as they were continuously hitting her head.
"For the love of cereal!"
Wendy stood up from the floor and bit her lip to see cereal boxes scattered on the floor. She took a quick glance at the storekeeper, and she was glad to see that the young lady didn't hear a single thing since she was busy reading some sort of manga and is busy listening to music on his earphones.
She took a deep breath and went back to fix her mess, she turned around to see a stranger standing in front of herー staring at her. "Oh god, you almost gave me a heart attack."
The guy chuckled at her remark and lowered down to help Wendy return the fallen boxes.
She felt kind of awkward, she just kept silent while they both were busy fixing the mess. Wendy did steal a couple of glances which the guy clearly noticed, but he didn't bother at all and just smiled at her.
"Thanks." Wendy awkwardly said, staring at the ceiling.
"The ceiling said you're welcome." the guy replied, trying to break the awkward atmosphere.
Wendy bit her lip out of embarrassment and slightly scratched the back of her neck. She wasn't really used to talking with strangers and she isn't used to eye contact either especially in times like this. Wendy sure is an awkward person.
She slowly averted her eyes to his and repeated her Thank You, but with a less clear voice which made the guy chuckle. He then suddenly extended his right hand to Wendy. "You're welcome." he replied.
Wendy just blankly stared at it, frozen. "Don't leave me hanging." he stated, waiting for Wendy to take his hand.
She was unsure whether she should shake his hand or not, but her hand started moving by itself as if it has a life of its own. "I'm Mark. By the way, here's the cereal box you tried to reach earlier." he said as soon as Wendy shook his hand.
"Well, it's a nice day to meet you Clark but do I have to tell you mine?"
"Well yeah, it would be unfair if you won'tー But my name's not Clark."
"You see Clark, i'm really hungry right now, I have to eat asap." She replied and without a word, grabbed the cereal box from Mark's grip and quickly ran to the cashier and quickly paid for her groceries. Mark on the other hand, was frozen in place.
Wendy sure was sorry about it, but she really got hungry that she feels like she'd die out of hunger anytime soon. She was impatient that she shove ramen into her mouth even before 3 minutes would pass which was the required time to be cooked and even though it still was super hot and spicy.
"Clumsy hamster." Mark muttered and sat on the chair across Wendy.
Wendy's brows furrowed at confusion. "What did you just call me?"
"Hamster." he replied with no hesitation, crossing his arms.
"Oーkay."
Wendy continued eating, not bothering to talk to him even.
"Hey Wendyー oh wait shoot." Wendy's eyes widened as Mark called her name when in fact, she didn't told him her name yet. "Oh my gosh, how did you know my name?"
Mark heaved a deep sigh. He took his cap off his head and ruffled his hair which made it clear for Wendy to see his face and that definitely almost made Wendy choke. It has been years that they last saw each other, and Wendy doesn't know what to feel about this.
"Surprise?" Mark awkwardly said. Wendy's mouth was wide open out of surprise.
"You bastard, I thought you'd never come back."
"But I did." Mark chuckled, Wendy sure was happy to see that.
"I missed you." They said in unison, both feeling their cheeks burn and turning into a shade of red.
"That was awkward."
